Spartan Motors Showcases Its Industry-First Driver Safety Technology with Crash Mitigation Demonstration at Florida RV SuperShow
Advanced Protection System® Represents Big Step
Toward Autonomous Driving Aids for RVers
TAMPA, Fla., January 19, 2017 – Spartan Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPAR), a global leader in specialty chassis and vehicle design, manufacturing and assembly, demonstrated its groundbreaking Advanced Protection System® (APS) driver safety technology at the Florida RV SuperShow this week, complete with a simulated crash scenario in which an APS-enabled RV successfully avoids a collision without driver interference.
A video of Spartan’s APS platform in action can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7cGvGcdiR4
“We introduced our APS platform with 2017 model year coaches, but this is the first opportunity we’ve had to show it to the RV community so they could witness the technology firsthand,” said Daryl Adams, President and Chief Executive Officer of Spartan Motors. “It’s an impressive combination of cutting-edge technologies, yet it’s not until you actually see it in action that you can begin to appreciate the new level of collision mitigation and resulting safety we’ve introduced. We’re proud to say Spartan Motors is the first chassis supplier to bring this game-changing technology to the market.”
Spartan’s Advanced Protection System is available on 2017 Class A luxury coaches from leading premium manufacturers Entegra and Newmar. Spartan’s APS platform utilizes the following systems:
- Radar-based Collision Mitigation (Forward Warning and Active Braking)
- Electronic Stability Control
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Spartan Safe Haul™: a proprietary, integrated air braking system for towing
“This technology not only makes RVing safer, but it also opens doors to new consumers who may not have considered a Class A coach up to this point,” said Steve Guillaume, President of Spartan Specialty Vehicles. “It ultimately makes the road ahead that much safer for everyone traveling on it.”
The 2017 Florida RV SuperShow was held at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa Jan. 17-22. It is the largest annual RV show in the nation.
