| The
wonderful
US
Botanic
Garden
is
located
on
the
National
Mall
at
the
foot
of
the
Capitol
Building.
It's
free
and
it's
open
every
day
from
9
to
5.
We
found
parking
to
be
a
problem;
public
transportation
might
be
a
better
way
to
get
there.
There's
not
only
the
conservatory
-
the
picture
to
the
right
shows
just
how
wonderful
it
really
is
-
but
also
2
acres
of
surrounding
parks.
We
visited
on
a
sunny
summer
day,
but
it's
open
all
the
year
round,
and
as
the
seasons
change,
so
does
the
display.
|
|
| It's
not
just
a
garden
of
course,
it's
a
museum
of
living
plants.
There
are
about
4,000
plants
on
display.
|
| You
can
see
how
close
it
is
to
the
Capitol
building
from
the
view
on
the
right.
This
is
taken
from
Bartholdi
Park,
which
is
"an
outdoor
garden
demonstration
landscape
and
includes
the
historic
Bartholdi
Fountain."
They
are
now
building
the
National
Garden
on
3
acres
directly
west
of
the
Conservatory.
To
quote
Barbara
Bush:
"The
National
Garden
is
to
nature
what
the
Smithsonian
is
to
Art."
This
is
being
built
as
one
large
garden
comprised
of
several
smaller
gardens
and
ground
was
broken
for
Phase
One
in
April
2004.
