| Newport,
Rhode
Island,
has
miles
of
wonderful
coastline
and
is
ideal
for
sailing
or
relaxing
on
a
beach.
But
it
is
also
a
place
where
you
can
wander
through
cobblestone
streets
with
unique
shops
and
galleries.
The
waterfront
restaurants
are
great
too,
or
you
can
eat
in
a
high
street
pub.
There
is
a
year-round
calendar
of
events,
with
nautical
events
and
food
fairs.
The
summer
has
sailing
events,
boat
shows
in
the
harbor
and
outdoor
music
festivals.
The
fall
and
winter
has
festivals,
and
Christmas
has
Victorian
Christmas
feasts.

| The
Newport
Mansions
were
built
by
the
19th
century
industrialists
and
they
are
one
of
the
main
attractions
for
tourists.
Many
of
these
-
the
Breakers,
Chateau-sur-Mer,
the
Elms,
Marble
House,
(the
summer
house
of
the
Vanderbilts),
and
many
more,
are
open
to
the
public.
Bellevue
Avenue
is
a
scenic
drive
that
takes
you
past
many
of
the
mansions.
Most
of
these
are
visible
from
the
road.
Ocean
Drive
is
a
winding
road
that
has
spectacular
views
of
the
Atlantic
Ocean,
more
mansions
and
the
Fort
Adams
State
Park.
There
are
museums
-
including
the
Museum
of
Newport
History,
the
Museum
of
Yachting
and
the
Old
School
House
(the
oldest
schoolhouse
in
the
United
State)
-
to
visit
on
a
rainy
day.
But
the
main
attraction
of
Rhode
Island
is
the
ocean
and
Newport
is
really
-
in
our
opinion
-
the
summer,
the
beaches
and
wandering
around
on
a
sunny
day.
We
hope
you
enjoy
it
as
much
as
we
did.
