The roads in California are terrible for RVs. My next leg of this trip requires traveling US 199 from Crescent City to the Oregon border. I am pulling a 33 ft travel trailer and I think that Hwy 199 might be too dangerous as it looks narrow and winding. Anyone have any experience on Hwy 199? I can change route to stay inland on I-5.

Don't forget about the DMV. If you happen to be still working, you have to register your car and motorhome within 20 days, and it's pretty expensive. I'm leaving as a result...

Here in No. Calif where I live, the CALTRANS has closed our only dump stations in these areas.HWY 101 Trinidad, HWY 199 The Tunnel near the Ore. border, And are talking of closeing the HWY 299 near Willow Creek.
And they say that they are RV friendly, I don't think so. Both of these Roadside Rest they filled with concrete.

I think California is the least friendly state for RVers that I've been to and I've been to 43 states. The coastal area just doesn't have enough parks and they're overpriced.

Just returned from California and they are NOT RV friendly. The camping prices are outrageous!! The roads and bridges are in terrible condition! RV parks have very small spaces (no room for awnings, toad, guest, shade, table, etc.). They have a long way to go to improve relations with RV'ers.

Most of the Wal-Marts will not let you stay o-nite, They are pushing for the RV parks

We discovered that the California coast is best toured in a car. Find an RV campground inland, and then head out for day trips.

It's a pity the southern California coast line doesn't have enough RV parks. Some of our favorite places have no RV park at all and even where there are parks they're either not suitable for 40 footers or they're usually full. They charge too much but I guess if they're full or don't have much competition they can charge what they want.

Ron J-I heartily agree. California gives little to its RV'ers--it has more towns and cities with anti-RV parking ordinances than any other state. What it is saying is "Pull in and spend your dollars--then MOVE ON"! (Read the fine print on the logo)

I don't think California is very RV friendly. Fuel costs more there, the speed limit is only 55 with a toad, RV parks are difficult to find in some places and too expensive. What does friendly mean? Bring us your tourist dollars, I guess!
