| Atlantic
City
Boardwalk
was
built
in
1870.
It
was
just
12
feet
wide
and
intended
to
keep
the
sand
out
of
the
hotels.
Today
it's
40
feet
wide
and
stretches
for
more
than
4
miles.

There
are
shops
of
course,
and
more
and
more
casinos,
but
there
is
also
Boardwalk
Hall
renovated
at
a
cost
of
$90
million,
now
capable
of
seating
more
than
13,000
people
for
special
events.

|
This
was
my
first
visit
to
the
boardwalk,
but
my
wife
remembered
making
visits
many
years
ago,
riding
bicycles
with
the
kids
on
sunny
days.
Happy
memories,
but
this
time
she
saw
it
as
dirty
with
smoky
casinos
-
despite
the
fact
that
Atlantic
City
claims
to
be
cleaning
it
all
up.
|

|
|
But
it
is
of
course
much
more
than
we
saw;
it's
not
only
casinos
and
world-class
entertainment,
it's
fun
attractions
as
well
as
fishing,
golf,
water
sports,
and
much
more.
And
it
is
a
rejuvenation;
the
fortunes
of
Atlantic
City
have
been
restored
by
gambling.
It's
now
the
second
most
popular
casino
resort
in
the
US
-
not
too
far
behind
Las
Vegas
in
the
number
of
visitors
per
year.
|
|
Atlantic
City
has
more
than
30
million
visitors
a
year.
The
casinos
may
be
the
big
draw,
but
the
boardwalk
is
perhaps
its
best
loved
landmark.

I've been going to Atlantic City for many years. I agree that is dirty but it's much better than it was and it's getting better every time I visit. The area of the boardwalk near to Ballys and the Sands is the nicest area I think. I love AC and I love the Boardwalk, I'm looking forward to going back.
