Re: RV quality concernsTerry I wish to inform all your readers the Difference between the warranty and the certification label IE: RVIA or CSA in Canada. When a RV is manufactured it must be Certified. At the time of certification the unit is labeled, this is a very important concept in law! The label indicate the RV meets or exceeds the CSA Z240 or the RVIA NFPA 1192 standard. So what ever the issue on or off warranty if the issue you are having with your RV is in contravention of the standard and if the warranty department tells you to walk. Explain to them how your RV was not built to the minimum standards and tell them to do the repairs at no cost to you the RV owner. If the manufacture tells you to walk! Contact the certification agency and file a complaint of how your RV is in contravention of the citification standard. The certification agency will be required to contact the the RV manufacture and ask them how and when the repairs will completed. This means you will need a copy of the certification standard used to certify your RV to explain what part of the code is not in compliance. Your best angle will be one of safety!!! Cheers from Canada. See RoTi item
Re: RV quality concernstoyotamikeLove my Providence Motor Home but hate the windows... I can accept that one, possibly two dual pane windows may lose their seal and fog over time but EVERY window on my coach is fogged to the point of making it unsafe to drive. I have difficulty seeing my rear view mirrors due to fogging. Sure, it's out of warranty at 5 years and 19,000 miles but what can an owner reasonably do to "maintain" the rig to keep this from happening? I send this to you as you may be aware of help with a resolution. See RoTi item

Re: Why don't we want the dieselsoupysocksI think the main reason is two fold, for decades we in North America have had a cheap supply of gas and with the land yatches and millions of miles of roads to travel our priorty was different than Europe, USA and Canada build the country around the automobile and Eurpoe had to adapt the car to the landscape. Second, GM went full throttle with Diesel in the late '70's and early '80's but that proved to be a disaster with cost cutting and major engine problems accross the board the consumer of the day had a bad taste in their mouth and shyed away. These are the reasons on why to this day we do not adopt the diesel engine in passenger cars in mass quanities, but I do beleive this will change in the near future.See RoTi item
Re: RV vacations least expensiveSushidogWe typically average about $75/day adding up all our expenses including: fuel, camp fees, attraction fees, food, drink and misc expenses. It helps that we get 22-25 mpg towing. On our last trip to Big Bend, NP we averaged about $12/night in CG fees. Instead, we spend our money eating, drinking and sightseeing a lot. This does not cover the expenses of owning and maintaining my camper, which I estimate as follows: If I take the purchace price of my 1 yr old Aliner camper at $8,900 + $1,000 worth of modifications and accessories. Now estimate $200/yr for maintenance, repairs and license x 6 yr est. life before trade-in ( conservative) = $1,200. Add this all together = $11,100 - $3,000 residual value (after 6 yr est. life) = $8,100 divide that by 6 yrs = $1,350. Divide that by 18 days/yr = $75/day + $75/day for trip expenses = a total expense of $150/vacation day. Subtract the cost of food, drink and added utility costs if we were to remain at home during this time, which I roughly estimate to be about $40/day. This yields a net expense of about $110/day - a real bargain for an unforgetable one-with-nature, soul enriching experience. If we were able to use the camper for 3 weeks/yr the cost would drop by about $25/day to only $85/day. Had I stayed at the Chisos Lodge (right next to our campground, the room rate alone is between $113-$141/night. Add in the car expenses for this $2,000 mile trip, plus the extra expense of eating out every night and I could easily believe a 50%+ savings. The intangibles gained from camping are priceless - far exceeding costs! One is never really able to compare camping with traveling and renting a room. It's apples and oranges. See RoTi item
