The "RV Capital of the World" Elkhart Indiana held the 55th Midwest RV Super Show over the weekend ending 15th August 2010. Things have certainly improved since last year, when the show — held in northern Indiana for 54 straight years — was canceled because people weren't buying RVs. This year, the RVIA reports that through the first six months of this year, sales are up more than 87 percent over 2009.

According to AP, "Mark Bowersox, executive director of the Recreation Vehicle Indiana Council and director of the super show, says RV sales are a reflection of consumer confidence. He says people are buying RVs again because they are feeling better about the economy." WSJV-TV, Elkhart-South Bend commented today that Mark Bowersox, the show's director said "The fact that we've had serious potential buyers out here this week, that's a real good sign for the industry as well as the national economy."

WSJV goes on to say: "Sizzling temperatures this weekend couldn't keep buyers away from checking out the latest in new RV's. The heat was also on for vendors like who took note of both the steady attendance and shoppers ready to spend money on the newest products.

'There were definitely more [people] than I expected and a lot more serious lookers than I expected,' says Joanna Miller, an RV dealer at the event.

By the end of the three-day show, sold signs could be seen on many of the vehicles, leading customers like Mike Wheeler to believe that the economy is heading in the right direction.

'I saw a lot of sold signs on a lot of these campers so maybe that's a good sign, and we're hoping that it picks up,' says Wheeler."
