| Jeff | The price is pure and simple insane! I love this type of layout for a weekend, but with the amenities offered, I would rather buy a enclosed utility trailer for $3000.00, and fit it myself. I have always thought Airstream is way out of line with there pricing, now I am positive! |
| Mike-Anacortes | Hi Woolfgang
I'd love to see your pix of what you built.
I'd rather do my own as well .
For $24k +++ I can spend a lot of time taking time off in my own unit.

| Steve | I just stumbled across an 08' model but am looking to sell it. Any takers?? stcbtaylor@yahoo.com |
| Kev Holmes | Love everything about this trailer. Too bad it's not included in the 2009 Airstream production but I'm sure it'll be back soon. I'm looking for a 2007 or 2008 model at a reasonable price but I don't think many people want to sell. |
| RobitJ | Moot question. The Base Camp will NOT be offered in the 2009 Lineup of Airstream. |
| Brad | This is a beautiful small little trailer. The concept is great, but where is the bathroom? My wife and I just purchased a new unit, and lets just say we could have bought 3 R-pods for the price of this thing!! And it has a bathroom! I love the trailer though. |
| rh | Might not be the best economic time to roll this out, but very "Airstreamish" indeed. The people who are not bothered by price will buy it.
I really like the concept and the look. Can't wait for some more companies to come out with something 1/3rd the price. |
| Jibwhibo again | Just thinking about it some more, IT'S NO MORE THAN A GLORIFIED HORSE FLOAT! INFACT A HORSE FLOAT IS PROBABLY A BETTER ALTERNATIVE IF KITTED OUT RIGHT!!
|
| Jibwhibo | This is a very sylish looking trailer- but I will take function over form any day for that price.
How is it that I can build an exact replica of this, for a fraction of the price? Are people really prepared to pay 24 large for a namebrand still in this day and age?
Please do the word a favor Airstream- start building for the comman man once again, let the rich take the "Optional extras" but 24 large for what is essentially an enclosed box trailer is absurd! |
| Kay K | The Airstream Basecamp is the coolest trailer - see the RoTi review - but the r-pod is pretty cool too. Really like the r-pod retro look. But the basecamp is to die for. There is something about Airstream that no one can quite match even though their prices are too high. Also like the Airstream DWR. |
| Bill | I'm writing this note right after the worst US financial crash in 80 years and Airstream wants me to go camping in a $24,000 midget trailer? I - don't - think - so! |
| Steve K. | $25,000?
They are aware it doesn't have an engine...right?
I agree it is beautiful, but there isn't enough to it to be worth more than what I paid for my Toyota Sienna van when I bought it new.
At the end of the day, it is a T-R-A-I-L-O-R, with a couple of cots and a sink (even if it is beautiful). |
| El Cheapo | Looks cool, but 24 large would buy a lot of gas. I could get a pretty nice used "living room" on wheels for that price too. Don't they know that ski/paddling/freeride bums are broke and spend all their money on their gear? |
| rance | Love the idea but that price is insane! |
| Wally | Wolfgang,
I am going to do just what you did starting with a 12 foot enclosed trailer, so I can put my motorcycle in and roll it out and then lower bunks attached to the sidewalls. Any info you could provide would be very much appreciated, Wally email zinck@bellsouth.net |
| Wolfgang Bloom | The Airstream Basecamp is a glorified cargo trailer with stuff bolted inside. I purchased a 2004 stainless steel Wells Cargo trailer, put in a toilet, kitchen, windows and stainless skin for 9,500. and the thing is professional grade.... people ask me all the time to make them one. Shame on you Airstream for bilking people....862. bucks for a refer/freezer at 1.1 cub. ft. ?? Huh? Mine is a 5.5 cub. ft seperate freezer/refer., cost me 210 smackers and 35 bucks to install. If anyone wants pics you'll be amazed at the standards this trailer possesses. wolfgangbloom@mac.com ... 24K as a base cost!!? Huh? My parents first house cost them 18.5 in '65... Things are a'changin'... |
| Camper Mom | Absolutely love it in theory and in looks. However, not crazy about the kitchen being farthest from the door at the dead end. Any of these designers have kids that love to run back and forth to the kitchen? I'd love to see a teardrop/outside type of kitchen. And an outside shower while they're at it. Hosing off sand and dirt is best done outside...
As long as I'm dreaming, I might as well be picky. |
| Sean | Absolutely coolest trailer I have ever seen inside and out however it's not worth 24,000. Unless of course you're rich and have money growing in your yard. |
| Connor | The basecamp is worth every cent of its price. We love it and its the center of attention wherever we go. We use it most weekends in good weather, no problems and well made. |
| J LO | I love the looks and the teardrop heratige behind the new design twist however 20K is a tad too pricy. |
| H. Lee Vence | This thing is hot......but it better be for 25,000 dollars. |
| Arol | Where is the bathroom?
Most women want the basics, don't they?
They sound pricey!
I'm going back to the tent
and porta pot lol |
| Billy A. | Now this is cool ! Innovative concept by an industry leader may bring about other new ideas that would be welcomed by us R.V.'ers . Yes...I would buy the "Basecamp" ! |
| Elly | I've looked at the Basecamp and think it is sophisticated and smart looking. It would look great behind a Smart Car - although I don't think it could pull it. I love it from a design point of view but I also perceive it as something convenient and well designed for the sportsman and camper. |
| Roddy Kenton | I've looked at the Basecamp and really like the concept. Hook the thing up to your 4WD take where you like and set up camp. I think these things are about 20k - seems a bit pricey. |
| Tompson 43 | I agree this is different. I never thought about buying a trailer but I can see how this would fit into our lifestyle. RoTi does a great job with consumer reports and reviews. |
