Coleman Switchback camping trailer exterior - being towed

Coleman says: "In the camping mode, the Switchback trailer features a backpacker style tent, which deploys to create a spacious 12-foot-10-inch by 6-foot-7-inch space with sleeping accommodations for four or more campers. Two 51-inch by 78-inch private sleeping areas feature meshed ceiling panels for sleeping under the stars, and include rain protection with an easy-to-deploy rain fly. Between the wing-like sleeping compartments is a 52-inch by 80-inch common area that can easily become an impromptu dining area or additional sleeping space."  Very simple as you can see from the floorplan below...

"The SwitchbackTM likes to work but loves to play as it combines the camping trailer comforts of an off-the-ground tent with the versatility of a sport and utility trailer," said Dana Gehman, FTCA Product Development & Marketing Manager.

Coleman Switchback camping trailer lifestyle picture

"Unlike other ultra-lightweight sport/utility trailers, this layout is ideal for singles, couples, friends, and families who think green and want to leave a small carbon footprint with their tow vehicle choice and camping lifestyle," added Gehman.

The versatile Switchback also functions as a capable utility trailer for closer to home activities such as landscaping or weekend building projects. With a front gear deck measuring 31 inches by 52 inches, and a versatile roof rack system, the Switchback can easily carry standard 4-by 8-foot plywood sheets and two-by-fours, shrubs or bags of mulch.

As Gehman explains it, "This trailer is more than just a really good camping trailer. It is a sport trailer that hauls your bicycles and kayaks, and a utility trailer when you need one. It's really two or three trailers in one. That's why we say it likes to work but loves to play."

Bill AThis is very, VERY similar to a Cox Camper from the 1970's. The way it folds up and the way the canopy is shaped is exactly like the Cox camper. The only big difference is the canopy is not heavy canvas like the Cox. Oh, and the Cox didn't have the 'utility' designation so there's no real cargo space on top of the camper.
Coleman NoviceJust looked at this camper at a Indiana, PA dealership. Custom unit that could use larger diameter tires for highway use. $4900 sticker. The dealer said this is the first and only model year for the unit - thought it was over priced myself.
RonQuicksilver make a real motorcycle camper. There's a review of it on this site, just go to search by manufacturer.
Chuck Grahami would like to see a smaller one weighting less than 350lbs i don't need that big of a rack, i want to tow it with a goldwing motorcycle
JudyI was just told by a Coleman dealer that Coleman has decided not to make these.
Eleshea MartinI'd like a quote for this trailer. I think it looks like so much fun! e_martin0119@yahoo.com
CarlFantastic. What more do you need. The thing I like the best is it's simplicity. I also like the Quicksilver and that's available in different sizes.
Wade and SandraHad a small Scotty for many years when kids were growing up, they got too long for the sleeping space, we got them a tent and we enjoyed it for many more years. Sold it for $500 after they entered high school. Wish we had it back now that we are retired. These campers are really much better than tents!!
Drew BThis would be perfect for my son and family. They do all kinds of activities and they could tow it with their small vehicle. It's cheap but not cheap enough I think with our current finances.
