Coachmen Spirit of America travel trailer exterior

Coachmen says that the "Spirit of America is built with aluminum framed laminated sidewalls providing a smooth, strong exterior - but with a price comparable to traditional wood framed construction."

"No longer does moderately priced mean wood framed sidewall construction and ribbed metal siding. Spirit of America gives you a new level of quality with the only aluminum framed and vacuum bond laminated sidewalls priced to compete with traditional wood framed construction."

ChuckI would have to say that the 2009 coachmen spirit of america that i purchased the end of April in 2008 has been nothing but a host of problems. This is not my first trailer. I had a 2007 capri that had minor problems all covered under warranty. But when we decided to upgrade we got a lemon. We used the 2009 twice in 2008 closed it up for the season. Opened it inmid June due to a very cold and rainy new england spring and found that when I had closed the slide out it had pealed the linoleum of the floor, I had also had the master bed come apart at the point where the piston held the bed up. I took it to my local dealer for repairs and was told that Coachmen had a 1 year warranty and all repairs were on me. The cost in excess of $3000. Poor workmanship should not fall on the consumer. We were able to take the trailer out 2 weeks later and upon hooking up to fresh water found that my water lines had burst under the sink and now I have no recourse but to try to warn others away from Coachmen who have no concern other than to get your money and leave any warranty issues to you. Coincidentally Coachmen no longer warranties 2009 trailers they have sold the division to Four winds trailers who have no interest in paying for any prior defects in a Coachmen product. So I am now stuck with a brand new trailer that a spent about $29,000and can't use. Do your homework carefully before buying this product. I hope others have better luck than me.
Rod BeattyWe've had 2 Coachmen travel trailers and have been happy with both. We now have a 2008 Spirit of America Since new we've spent more than 50 nights in it and have towed it more than 4000 miles. We have a Hensley hitch and love it, no problems. We've had a few problems as you get with any RV of course but nothing major and they've all been sorted under warranty. Good company.
GregI'm seriously considering buying a 2009 Spirit of America (Alumicage version)trailer. Is Coachmen quality good?
Ken ArlingtonWe have a 2008 Coachmen Spirit of America and really love it. We got a great price and it's a great trailer
