Cikira Retro-Lite small travel trailer exterior

Retro-style trailers don't look like standard RVs and this look is popular with some buyers. The Washington Post, writing about the 2009 Lousiville trade show said the Cikira retro look was popular because the trailers "have a certain charm that's giving them the exciting visual appeal many people desire. A retro RV actually looks good behind your favorite midsize SUV, crossover or other tow vehicle of choice."

"The 160 FD model offers practical living in a 16-foot length. A mostly white exterior, accented by minimal graphics, keeps the Retro-Lite clean looking. Rounded front and aft walls, in keeping with the early 1950s trailer style, also enhance aerodynamics for improved towing. The 16-foot unit has a 3,830-pound GVWR and weighs about 1,830 pounds dry, so you have a range of towing options."  We show 3 pictures of the simple Retro-Lite interior below:

Brian in TexasI have a 2006 Cikra Classic Cruiser and like many of the comments I have read, I have a soft spot in the floor right in the center of the doorway. I've also noticed minor lumps under the vinyl floring all over. I think the OSB is very prone to absorbing water, especially in humid conditions, unfortunately. I've been thinking about laying 1/4 plywood over existing floor and simply putting new tile down. Any comments?
ChrisTexanOwner of a 2006 Classic Cruiser 18CCD, have to agree with another poster, since I've had it (bought it used) the CC has developed a large (area) soft spot in the "kitchen" area (no noticeable leaks, feels much more solid underneath (but not completely compared with surrounding areas) but sags badly on top with weight applied, leading me to think it's a ply/stryo/ply sandwich maybe?), and a major rot by the door (can push it up and down freely from top to bottom and DO NOT STEP there or you will probalby go through). I just spent a Sunday looking for leaks or other sources of water (nothing significant found anywhere near these trouble areas). Door was well-caulked, roof membrane appeared well sealed, and membrane underneath was smooth and sealed. Only thought is past (prior to purchase) water intrusion in the kitchen area (a forward skylight had a golf-ball sized hole from a hailstorm or something similar) caused some of the kitchen rot, however there is no clear evidence of anything at the door area (surrounding wood across the "beams" is solid as a rock, so whatever moisture caused this "settled" in the 2sq ft area between the beams and the door frame. The door doesn't seem to fit well closed (pushes out a little at the bottom) which appears to be the only source of possible water entry in the vicinity. Otherwise we really love it, our A/C seems appropriate (in Texas heat) for the size of the RV, in milder areas it might be overkill (and it is loud). The frame seems excellent, I would say the floor is the #1, #2, and #3 weakness, the rest is seemingly solid. Can't get to Cikira's website to ask how hard it's going to be to replace the floor, and what type it is for sure, that's not a good sign "bandwidth exceeded" for their site at 9AM CST).
Jim AuthWe have a 2005 Cikira 18 FB Classic Cruiser. The floor is made with OSB Plywood and it Rots if it gets wet. We had 4 major leaks do to poor design and workmanship. Which has led to 4 sections of Rotten Osb Flooring. Also, the Carrier 13,500 BTU rooftop A/C is over sized for the 100 sq. ft. of space in our 18 ft. Cikira. The A/C short cycles, because it is to many BTU's. So it does not remove the humidity inside of the trailer. Just our expereance with a 2006 18ft. FB Cikira Classic Cruiser. Jim A.
Kenneth NLooking seriously at the Cikira. Really like the stuff they're producing. Like the Classic Cruiser but my wife likes the retro look.
SophieReally disagree about the Cikira retro. I think its an improvement over the old ones and the new interiors are so much better. You can keep your 53 model I'm really into the new retro and think Cikira have done a terrific job.
vintage56trlrI own a 1953 travel trailer and these companies who keep coming out with the "retro" just don't get it. The newer ones just DO NOT have the charm that the old one's do or the style. Maybe they should talk to some of us who have them!!!
Susan MooreI don't really understand this retro look thing and the nostalgia for 50s and 60s RVs. I think the new trailers like the Fleetwood Terry are much better and probably more efficient and comfortable.
Betty BAlthough I don't own a T@B I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about it. I have what I construe as a great investment; I own a Camp Inn teardrop and although it's small the wait list and quality is making this such a desirable trailer. HOWEVER - its small, no bathroom and kitchen out the butt. As a girlie girl traveling it can be a little worrisome at times. My money will recoup what I paid for it which by the way was more than a used T@B. Still most RV's, like cars only depreciate and in fact RV's more so as gas prices soar, but frankly this is one area of the T@B purchase that concerns me. Plus I've been reading a drop in their quality control alongside $/value relationship. Still - it's a darn functional trailer and one I keep coming back to as a viable possibility. Like the retro look too like the Cicira Retro Lite.
Kath HThis is really cool, I love it. I saw one of these retros, not sure it was this one, but this looks great.
BuckhornReally love the retro look. This seems like a really nice trailer. Thanks, I'm going to look for a dealer.
