Guests at the QCCA Expo Center for the
RV, Camping and Travel Show (Davenport,
IA) on Sunday packed into tiny 10-foot
pop-up trailers or stretched out in
43-foot behemoths. Despite
rising gas prices and a tight economy,
dealers said it was a good weekend.
Bryan Head, a partner at US Adventure
RVs in Davenport, said he wasn’t
surprised by the turnout or the number
of people who bought RVs over the
three-day event.
“We had a great show here last year,
too,” Head said. “I think it’s already a
better year than it was last year. There
are new and exciting products out every
year, so there’s always an interest, and
there’s lots of people here. If they
don’t have one, they want one.”
Head said customers were having an
easier time getting loans this year than
they had last year, and that, combined
with more fuel-efficient vehicles, was
contributing to the demand. |

The “The gas prices make everybody feel
kind of negative and depressed to see,
but I think we’ve kind of accepted it,”
Head said. “I don’t think it’ll be as
bad as it was a couple of years ago when
it went to $4 overnight.”
Tom Enyeart, owner of Shabonna RV of
Atkinson, Ill., attributed the interest
in recreational vehicles and campers to
another cause.
“I think we’ve had a horrible winter,
and that has gotten people wanting to go
outdoors,” Enyeart said. “I’ve been
doing this for a long time, and that’s
always been our marker for a great
show.”
Spectators ranged from those who were
just looking for something to do over
the weekend to meticulous researchers
comparing prices and amenities.

It is an early 90s Scamp Trailer. It is a great little trailer. It sleeps 2-4. Has working lights, bar fridge , sink & stove. It has 3 brand new tires.Last year I re did all of the curtains as well as the cushions. Needs minor repair, for example new seal around the door but it still is fine right now! | Re: Jayco Melbourne class C motorhome | MarkintheGardens | We have owned a 2010 Melbourne 29D for a little over a year.
First, to jaybird, I think the 38'-8" is a typo. Our 29D is their largest model and I'm pretty sure it's about 31'-8". As far as handling, I think it handles very well. This is our first motorhome as owners, although we have rented a few times. It does react to cross winds and passing semis (don't they all?) We tow a Jeep Wrangler and even with our inexperience we have done well.
As far as the actual coach, we bought this one from a local dealership that had it listed on consignment with 8,300 mi. We really liked the layout. Three slides makes it appear much more roomy. It's been perfect for the two of us and our two puppies.
However, it seems that we have had more than our share of trouble (AC fan went out, Water heater died). Some of it has been covered by the maker of each component, others have been under our after-market extended warranty.
Forget getting ANY help from JAYCO as a second owner. After several months, we noticed the floor in the galley felt "soft". It was discovered that the water system control valve connections were dripping. Apparently they had been dripping for a really long time and probably had not been properly tightened at the factory. JAYCO refused to do anything about the repair. With that kind of QC and zero support, I would not recommend them. |
