Tom Benning originally wanted to buy a
motorcycle. Instead, he ended up owning half
a motor home and gaining hundreds of new
friends.
As Benning and his pal Chuck Miesfeld
prepared to head out of town for Dallas this
week, he was convinced more than ever that
he did the right thing.
"We're thinking the GBBRAT is the catalyst
for this," Benning said. "We must be the
Packers' good luck charm."
GBBRAT doubles as the license plate number
(a Packers plate, of course) and name of the
34-foot Bounder recreational vehicle Benning
and Miesfeld bought and refurbished before
the season to follow their favorite team,
the Green Bay Packers..

As they make their way to Texas, the
motor home could easily be mistaken for an
official team vehicle.
The front of the bus has a Packers logo splashed
across the grill and "Green Bay Packers" near
the roof.
A step inside is like walking into Lambeau
Field. Almost every furnishing bears a Packers
logo, from the plaques and pictures on the
cabinet doors to the bedspreads and chairs.
The pair took the rig to every home game this
year, parking it alongside the inspiration for
it, a 1966 Packers-themed Winnebago that has
been featured in NFL commercials. Their game-day
parties have attracted as many as 300 people
before the games, including Brewers left fielder
Ryan Braun, who attended the Giants game in
December and stuck around to sign autographs and
pose for photos after asking Miesfeld if he
could have a look inside.
On game day, they will host a party for about 40
fans from Sheboygan who are making the trip.
Miesfeld provided about 300 brats, enough to
feed the group and anyone else who might stroll
over to check out the rig. He's hoping that
Packers great Bart Starr, who lives near one of
Miesfeld's friends in Alabama, will come and
sign the motor home.
"It's just fun to pull into the lot, and get the
brats out," Miesfeld said.
"We meet people from all over."
