Scamp 13' small travel trailer

If you like the idea of a small lightweight trailer without the inconvenient setup, then the Scamp 13' might be just right for you.  Scamp is a family owned business from central Minnesota which has been making compact travel trailers since 1971.

Scamp advises Roaming Times that they will produce about 450 travel trailers this year and waiting time is about 2 months from ordering directly from the factory.

Scamp trailers are very lightweight, and are designed to be easily towed by small cars and trucks. The aerodynamic design assures high fuel efficiency.  Virtually all Scamp trailers are custom made with the features desired by the new owners.  The Scamp Custom Shop allows an endless variety of design options.

Scamp says: "Compact and affordable, the Scamp 13' is great for couples or small families. The front sofa converts to bunk beds, and the rear dining area converts to a double bed, providing sleeping space for four people.

The interior is upholstered in brown or blue cushions, brown carpet and beige curtains. Fiberglass cabinets and wood panel doors complete the interior."

JB :   I found the Carson Kalispell disappointing, and was about to give up on a small trailer until I saw the Scamp. It's perfect. Now if I could only find one used in southern California! JENNIFERBARRETT9@msn.com

StreetRodder :   I pull a 13' Scamp behind my streetrods. I have trucks, and cars, all antique. And each one is capable of pulling the trailer without damage to my hotrods. Lightweight, they follow well, and if I get the gumption, I'll paint it to match my hotrods. Maybe a flamed theme , which would work on all of the rods. It's a good reliable, easy to haul rolling apartment. It's small, but with the light tongue weight, it doesn't do damage to my suspensions. I like it a lot. Good luck if you join us in buying a SCAMP. Keep the rubber side down, COOTER

Guy :   We are looking to rent a scamp for 5 nights to be used to in NS Beach area. Would sit in my fathers driveway to allow extra sleeping during spring break April 3rd...

Jim Q. :   I purchased a new 13 ft. Scamp less than a year ago. Had it shipped to Florida and anticipated the pleasure my wife and I enjoyed in our first Scamp years ago. Unfortunately I waited too long and now health problems force me to sell this unit. We used it only twice, both times to go to Disney World for a total of five days. Such is life, I guess. If you know of anyone looking for a very nice reasonably priced Scamp, with A/C, refrigerator, awning, tv hookup, two sets of Scamp sheets, and new porta potty please let me know. I have it stored. I'll take $9,000. Thanks.

Al St. Aubin :   I just found a small camper that looks just like the 13" Scamp in a town next to mine. Needs a little TLC, just called the realty agent because the property is for sale. Hoping the owner is willing to part with it reasonably. My wife is disabled and tent camping doesn't cut it any more. Has any one ever seen one with the words AUTOFRY on the back? What is the best way to restore the shell? Shell has a lot of black on it believe it is from sitting for awhile.

New Mexico :   I'm a first time, single RV-er looking to be more outdoors, due to health reasons I cannot camp in a tent. My options at this point are a 13 ft Scamp (hard to find used), a Casita (equally hard to find) or a 2006 T@B for under 9k. The new Scamp 13 with toilet goes for around 11k and you need to order the options package. What do you Scamp owners think is the better thing to do in terms of value for my money? I appreciate the response.

Ron Schleder :   We own a 40' diesel pusher Mh and wanted to get back to "camping" in the Summer as we use the MH to showbird in each winter. We took out first trip last summer/fall in our 2007 13' deluxe Scamp. We were gone for 7 weeks, traveled 5,000 miles, stayed in many National Parks and luv'd every minute of it. Our Scamp is fully loaded with a/c, bath, etc and was a total joy the entire trip. As stated, Scamp sells direct from their Backas, Mn plant and will arrange delivery to your home if you desire. There are NO dealers for these great lil trailers. Because of the economy, they have a backlog of units ready for instant delivery so you don't have to wait the normal 2-3 months for the factory build cycle. Get one of these, you'll never regret it! Ron

J. Campbell :   We purchased a 1984 Scamp two years ago and we just love it. We pull it with our 4 cylinder Nissan pick-up truck without any problems. Our favorite destination is Devils Fork State Park and there are lots of hills and you sometimes forget the camper is back there until you come to a huge hill and even then, it's no problem.

S. Loving :   I bought a used 13' Scamp 5+ yrs ago and love it!! It has everything you need. I towed it with my 99 Kia Sportage. Never had any problems. It sleeps 4 comfortably, I think. If you need a little more space than the 16' might be for you. The 16' just has a little more space than the 13' but, still just as cute. If you find one, grab it. They're hard to find and definitely worth every penny. Good luck!!

Thumper :   That sounds great. 2 BIG questions. What do you tow the trailer with? How much does the trailer weigh? Cheers!

2muchfreetime :   1999 Scamp 16' Just bought a used (less than 20 times) Scamp 16. Took it camping the next day. More than ample room for the 3 of us. Interior is in great shape, everything worked well. You can tell alot of thought went into the design of this camper. And with gas prices I enjoyed pulling it with my S-10 pickup. Bought it off a guy who got it from a friend who never used it. Got tons of positive comments and folks wanted to know if we wanted to sell it. I would love to get my hands on a couple more for a rehab and resell. Based upon your experiences, would you buy one of this manufacturer's RVs again?: Yes. Rating: 5/5.

Byron :   Purchased a Scamp about 2.5 years ago. I think this is one of the best purchases if not the best purchase I've ever made. Tows easily. Sets up in less than 10 minutes. More time for enjoying the outdoors. The furnace keeps us nice and warm in the winter. Plenty of ventilation in the summer. It's been just GREAT.

H and H :   To George. We need to but a very light weight travel trailer for just two people, with AC and with self contained toilet and water supply and dark water tanks... A microwave, dont need burners really. ARE there any with a generator? We would want one. thanks for any info you can give, anyone that can let us know , please do..

Gypcrose :   I didn't know that they still made these. Exactly what I'm looking for. Any dealers in the Rochester, NY area?

Didier :   I hear a lot of people in central to eastern Canada say that they wish there was a manufacturer of similar trailers to the Scamp Trillium and Boler in that area. I am in Ontario, have been a marine technician with a strong back ground in fiberglass and boat assembly and am thinking of starting a company that would build a similar trailer but each one would be custom built in ontario. I would also offer older fiberglass trailer refurbishing. I am trying to see what the demand would be for that. If anyone is interested in either this product and service or in investing please contact me at dcazorla@rogers.com Have a great day!

John A :   The reason they produced so few last year was because of a fire at the factory. They've rebuilt now and are back at full production. A great little trailer

George M Sutton :   I think these small trailers are great. The only problem I see is they produce so few. I tried to get the Escape, but they weren't taking on any Rv Dealers at the time. I try to specialise, and carry niche Rv products that are light-weight. I probably have the highest concentration of micro-light and ultra-light travel trailer in the nation. There is a strong trend towards fuel efficient towing with other products such as the TAB, TADA, Coyote Sports, Chalet, Takena, Hi-Lo, Airstream, TrailManor, and Bigfoot. That's my two cents, George
