| 2005 Alfa SeeYa | Bob S. | Had some roof leak at the front cap, took it to California RV Specialists in Lodi, Ca. and meet with Dustin. He explained the problem and found that the manufacture didn't put putty tape under the front and rear moldings. When the sealant seperated water just leaked in. They removed the molding and resealed them correctly. They also removed the stains in the ceiling too. Those guys are great help. | See RoTi item |
| Re: California RV friendly | Jeff Johnston | Guys ... go back and read the news item again. Just because a state adopts the RV Friendly signage program does not mean the entire state is RV friendly. That is not stated anywhere. Paying attention to the release, instead of using this as an anti-California whine session, makes this clear.
The RV Friendly signage program is for individual businesses. If you see an exit sign with restaurants at that exit on display, and the McDonald's sign says RV Friendly, that means the restaurant has a parking lot that can handle RVs, for example. And that's a useful thing to know.
Hwy 199 is fine for RV travel. I've driven it in rigs up to 42 feet long, no problem.

I`d also be happy to share expenses and driving with a rv owner, to spend winter months in Arizona or California or Florida, anywhere sunny and warm. I`m a non-smoker, love dogs and cats (don`t own any). Serious only can reach me at wendyisnow@yahoo.ca. Today is Nov.1,2009 | See RoTi item |

| Re: Why don't we want the diesel | The_Yakima_Kid | Actually, we'd love to have a diesel; unfortunately, the self-proclaimed "environmentalists" succeeded in having them banned in California. Supposedly they are legal again - or about to become legal - but from what I can tell the dealers aren't carrying them.
Back home in the Pacific Northwest we had diesel rabbits; unfortunately, the quality went down and we wound up going back to gasoline cars. A professor of mine was still driving his late 1950s diesel Mercedes around his Oregon farm and all over the state as late as the early 1980s; the thing seemed to be indestructible. | See RoTi item |

Ive read alot of his books coming up in school and watnot and seeing his house changed everything i read up till that point. You actually see here he spends some of his time writing and where he works from. Just stairing at the house with all the shades shut in the windows wondering if hes standing behind them looking at u? Even tho u kno someone is becuase theres surveillence cameras around the property. Its just wierd to see it in person. | Re: California RV friendly | Brenda | The roads in California are terrible for RVs. My next leg of this trip requires traveling US 199 from Crescent City to the Oregon border. I can change route to stay inland on I-5. | See RoTi item |

| Re: California - new for spring 2009 | Kerman | We travel down the whole California coast at least once a year. Most of it is good but RV parks are difficult in some areas. It's best to do your homework we've been stuck looking for a campground or one with a vacancy on occasions and it can be very busy in the summer. Went to Concannon Vineyard in Livermore Valley Wine Country last year also. You don't need a reservation but there's a $5 tasting fee. The wine country is nice to visit. | See RoTi item |
| Re: California - new for spring 2009 | Kelly | If you go to Monterey, and it's really nice, also go to Big Sur. There's an RV park there and the whole area is wonderful. But book early. Went last year and hope to go again this year. | See RoTi item |
| Re: California - not so RV friendly | Dave | Don't forget about the DMV. If you happen to be still working, you have to register your car and motorhome within 20 days, and it's pretty expensive. I'm leaving as a result... | See RoTi item |
| Re: RV registration fraud dangers | Bretman | The real reason for the crack down in Oregon is that the services that were registering out of state RVers were registering many people with the DMV at the same physical Oregon address which raised a big red flag on the operation. (Hey, how can all of these people be residing at the same address ??)
As others have mentioned, Montana offers the LLC for RV registration to out of staters where you can keep your home state driver's license, however, you usually cannot drive your RV back into your home state for a period of up to one year without being hit by your home state's use tax. The use tax is designed to catch out of state purchases (vehicles, furniture, etc.) by residents that intend to use the item in their home state. The use tax can be as much or more than your local sales tax, but often states give credit for out of state sales tax paid.
I personally would prefer to establish residency in a low cost state where my driver's license, tags, voter registration, mailing address, and tax return all matched. Then there is nothing that another state can do to you unless you visit for too long a period.
For instance, California can insist that you register in their state if you are there for more than 20 days, buy/lease a dwelling there, or work there. | See RoTi item |
| 2008 Winnebago Destination | Bob F | Bought an 08 last September. Drove from North Carolina to Florida and then proceeded to California and returned home. | 2008 Mandalay Presidio 360 38E | Teri & Susie | We just recently purchased a 2008 Presidio 360 38E from Vacation Station in San Diego California. Wow what a big mistake. Our first trip our water line to ice maker burst and flooded the carpet. Second and last trip out air conditioner did not work, we were in 110 degree weather. Drawer bottoms not stapled properly so drawers would not open after filling them. TV in bedroom came on in the middle of the night for no reason. Slide out would come out about an inch while driving down the road. Generator switch went out. Cracks in countertops. Needless to say we are not happy. What makes it even worse is the service we have recieved at Vacation Station. It has been there to make the proper repairs for 45 days. We still do not have our brand new motorhome to enjoy. All we have at this point is a lot of false promises and alot of lying going on at Vacation Station. | See RoTi item |
| Re: Fuel price prediction | Ben Cater | Fuel prices are just going up and up. I got diesel in Northern California today and paid $470 for a tank! Now almost $5 a gallon. | See RoTi item |
| Re: Electric vehicles - major growth predicted | Marie Cheshire | It is true of course that electricity is mainly produced using coal as fuel. But that's much better than having gas and diesel engined vehicles driving around our city. The overall polution level using electicity is much less than gas or diesel. Electricity is also due to be improved with clean coal technology if we ever get around to spending enough money on it and the proportion of electricity produced from solar and wind etc is also increasing especially in California where I live. | See RoTi item |

| Older rigs | BJ | We bought a new Winnebago in 1990 for our retirement years. Now we are being denied camping privleges in private campgrounds in both Phoenix Arizona and Ventura California. It is a 27 ft class A and we have taken good care of it so it is not a run down shack. What is the basis for this restriction? The parks are blaming insurace companies, various ordinances and other phony made up reasons. What is behind this? | See RoTi item |
| Re: Hyundai fuel cell electric vehicle | John A | I think this is the future. It just needs the distribution network for hydrogen setting up and they've started this in California. Then it needs new ideas for hydrogen production and mass production of the components will bring the price down. Then into more cars, then trucks and RVs. | See RoTi item |
| Re: California has gone to the dogs | Rob | Has our country become so idiotic and insane that people care more about dogs and cats than humans? | Re: Zero emissions fuel cell vehicle available 2008 | John Howard | Seems to me this would be a great business opportunity to get into hydrogen stations. | Re: RVers can get parking bans lifted | Robyn Kirk | I live in California. I can't park my new travel trailer outside of my house or even in the drive because of my home owner's association and even if they did allow it there's a new cityordinance against it. I think if they took a vote it would probably be against RVs because as someone else said many are jealous of the RV owners or they think it blocks the light or obstructs the view or just spoils the neighborhood. We live in a democracy so I guess the majority should make the decision. Makes me mad but I guess you've just got to go with it. Storage costs are a big item though. Good to hear about the folks in Rhode Island. | See RoTi item |

| Re: California has gone to the dogs | jagco | I own a small dog, but always keep him on a leash, when he's outside the house or the RV. I also contol his barking, unless there's someone at the door. He's just trying to protect me. ANYTIME I have him off my property, I pick up his crap. Responsible pet owners are not the problem. Some pet owners make it bad for everybody, but to just generalize that all pet owners don't care about other people, is just as ridiculous as saying all drivers don't care about other people, just because some are too lazy to use turn signals when they change lanes. Just my .02...... | See RoTi item |
| Re: California has gone to the dogs | cruzer | Dog owners don't take into account that other people use these areas also. They let their dogs bark too much, they let them crap anywhere and don't clean up after them. They see nothing wrong with taking these animals into every building they go into. Animals belong outside, unless the building belongs to you. I grew up on a farm and we never had animals in the house. The bottom line is anymore alot of people just don't give a damn about others. | See RoTi item |

| Re: California - spectacular fall foliage | KlamathRVpark | The reviewer missed Highway 96 "Bigfoot Scenic Byway--Where the Wildlife Watches You!" from 299 in Willow Creek, through the Hoopa Reservation (California's largest) and the towns of Orleans & Happy Camp, enroute eventually to I-5 at Yreka. We have some of the most spectacular autumn colors on the west coast, rivaling those of the east, but with some less scarlet (which has been planted locally). And our Klamath River, with autumn yellows reflected in deep pools, is photographically perfect. Add bears, deer, elk, bald eagles & osprey to the scenic views... | See RoTi item |

| Re: California - spectacular fall foliage | Sandy | Well, I lived in California 10 years. While I did see beauty galore and perhaps colorful fall vistas - to me Fall Foliage means the Catskill Mountains in New York State and points north. Maples and Oaks - bright orange and yellow and red - all next to each other up and down the hills and mountains - see the real fall foliage there!
Anyway, I live in the desert now and I would be glad for a breath of fresh air, with or without colors.

| The old American way of camping | confused | They do not push for the RV parks. California has local ordinances for a reason and there are no sides taken. Why don't you ever blame hotels or motels? It's always the RV parks and campgrounds being eroneously blamed.
Why can't you just look past your one sided view and see the other side? Why do you feel something is being taken or withheld from you because you cannot over night at a Walmart?
Local officials probably do take the RV parks, small campgrounds, and other businesses into some small bit of consideration but who can blame them? These places pay mega bucks for taxes, licences, INSURANCE, water, phone, gas, electric, telephone, and very expensive upkeep maintenance like roads, restrooms, an office, signs, advertising, and on and on. They buy local goods and materials. They are part of the backbone of their communities. They hire local people who pay local taxes.
What has happened to the old American way of camping? Where everyone realized that when gas prices, food prices, insurance costs, auto and RV prices, labor costs, etc. rise dramatically so do the prices of everything for the hospitality business
owners? Doesn't matter if you own a hotel, motel, retreat, RV park, or a campground.
Give the old American way of camping another honest sincere try. You might like it.

| Re: California - RV friendly | Roger L | Just returned from California and they are NOT RV friendly. The camping prices are outrageous!! The roads and bridges are in terrible condition! | Re: California - RV friendly | Hazel H | It's a pity the southern California coast line doesn't have enough RV parks. Some of our favorite places have no RV park at all and even where there are parks they're either not suitable for 40 footers or they're usually full. They charge too much but I guess if they're full or don't have much competition they can charge what they want. | See RoTi item |
| Re: California - RV friendly | Cassie | Ron J-I heartily agree. California gives little to its RV'ers--it has more towns and cities with anti-RV parking ordinances than any other state. What it is saying is "Pull in and spend your dollars--then MOVE ON"! (Read the fine print on the logo) | See RoTi item |
| Re: California - RV friendly | Ron J | I don't think California is very RV friendly. Fuel costs more there, the speed limit is only 55 with a toad, RV parks are difficult to find in some places and too expensive. What does friendly mean? Bring us your tourist dollars, I guess! | See RoTi item |
| Re: Trailer residents sue over formaldehyde | Pat | Ask your RV company to consider a new alternative from e2e Materials in Ithaca, New York. Our product contains zero formaldehyde and is much stronger than particleboard. It's strength allows us to reduce wieght by as much as 60%. More importantly, it's made from annually renewable, agriculural by-products and, like natural wood, is biodegradable at the end of its life. It's resin is made from a soy by-product of a biodeisel facility and it contains no petroleum products. The proprietary technology behind the product is the result of 14 years of research at Cornell University.
We're introducing our first product made from the material, skateboards, this fall and are working with other companies to bring additional products to market soon. Collaborative interest from the RV industy could certainly help to expedite its introduction. I work for e2e and certainly believe in our product, however there are other alternatives. As a result of recent legislation in California there are others working on introducing formadehyde-free (or drastically reduced) alternatives to the market.

| RE: HughesNet - beware - a scary company | DanaMite | Yes, I know Hughes way too well. I moved to a rural California location & got my big satellite $1000 installed (only for internet, no TV). After 2 years my conclusion was, it was not worth the $59/mo, cuz their high speed isn't really all that fast. Upload was more like 56k & downloading or streaming anything like video, forget it. If you access a database, like banks, it takes a long time. I ended up canceling Hughes & going with a new cable company, but they are very unreliable too, so I am back on 56k dial up -- in 2007 @ home in SoCal imagine that! | See RoTi item |
| Campground prices up, no change in amenities | Fulltimer0506 | I have fulltimed for a year now and find that many campground prices are getting higher with no change in amenities. I agree that Passport and Happy Camper are of little help due to restrictions on time of year, holidays, availability etc. Not sure their memberships are worth it with the restrictions they allow the camps to put on them. I agree that they should be available all the time and if they fill up then you obviously cannot get the discount there. California has many charging like KOA, over $50. I avoid it.

| Re: RV registration fraud | RVing4Life | California's confiscatory vehicle registration fees and taxes are legendary, but beyond belief in some cases. Last year I bought a car on Ebay in Kansas City and then drove it home to Los Angeles only to find that California charges their high sales tax on the transaction EVEN THOUGH it happened out of state! While I totally sympathize with the State of Oregon for going after these crooks, when states seek to raise revenues via insanely high taxes on big-ticket items like RV's, they're asking for people to try to "game the system" however they can. | See RoTi item |
| Our capital went into our coach | Betty Frances | We're on a tight budget. We're fulltimers who put most of our capital into our coach after selling up and taking early retirement. We love our lifestyle and work when we can. We usually stay in RV parks and have a couple of memberships. We overnight in walmart and casinos occasionally. I particularly like casinos and I usually don't gamble very much. In the winter we're either in Texas or Arizona and we like to spend some time in California. Hey, all I want to do is sleep & get back on the road. Even if I was to use an RV park I wouldn't be using any of the amenities. So why waste the money? The first few times we parked at Wally World we joked about it. Now we somewhat enjoy it. Close to a quick store access, supplies & restaurants.
