| Re:Coachmen quality improvements | Greg | I'm seriously considering buying a 2009 Spirit of America (Alumicage version)trailer. Is this a mistake or has Coachmen improved in the last few years from the previous complaints? | See RoTi item |
| Re: RV industry down but not out | John A | I think a lot depends on how long this downturn lasts and if manufacturers can hold out. The longer it lasts, the more manufacturers and suppliers as well as dealers and everyone connected to RVs will be forced out. The strongest and best will survive but we need new ideas and new technologies.

| Re: RV registration fraud dangers | Bretman | The real reason for the crack down in Oregon is that the services that were registering out of state RVers were registering many people with the DMV at the same physical Oregon address which raised a big red flag on the operation. (Hey, how can all of these people be residing at the same address ??)
As others have mentioned, Montana offers the LLC for RV registration to out of staters where you can keep your home state driver's license, however, you usually cannot drive your RV back into your home state for a period of up to one year without being hit by your home state's use tax. The use tax is designed to catch out of state purchases (vehicles, furniture, etc.) by residents that intend to use the item in their home state. The use tax can be as much or more than your local sales tax, but often states give credit for out of state sales tax paid.
I personally would prefer to establish residency in a low cost state where my driver's license, tags, voter registration, mailing address, and tax return all matched. Then there is nothing that another state can do to you unless you visit for too long a period.
For instance, California can insist that you register in their state if you are there for more than 20 days, buy/lease a dwelling there, or work there. | See RoTi item |
| Tell everyone about RVing | Joseph K | RV'ing goes back to the core values of the true America, remember the slogan in the 60’s “See the USA in your Chevrolet”. American wanted to see and enjoy this great land from coast to coast; and USA has a lot to offer us! Each of us RV’ers needs to tell none-RV’ers and especially the young adults; because, they are the future of RV’ing. About what it is like to be on a mini-vacation (Friday night, Saturday & Sunday) 60 to 100 miles from your home and with their family! RV’ing and The Family is the back-bone of America… So Speak-Up…. Speak-Up… to everyone you know, and RV’ing “will” get back on THE ROAD again | See RoTi item |
| Re: RV registration fraud dangers | Chris | We may be missing the bigger picture. It's descrimination. Why should I have to pay sales tax on my primary (and only) dwelling because I choose to have it mobile and someone that chooses a primary dwelling that is connected permanently to the earth does not? I think we need a movement that designates someones primary dwelling as not subject to sales tax. I am a NY resident and paid 8% sales tax on my permanent and only residence, a Class A RV. Each time I purchase a new residence (RV) I pay again. This seems like descrimination to me. Let's have a movement to end this residence descrimination. | See RoTi item |
| Houseplants clean the air in RVs? | MimiZ | I have asthma and before we bought our 09 17'Casita I called most Travel Trailer manufacturers and asked about emissions, (or off gassing). It was hard to get emission standards and they are not mentioned in the sale brochures. I know Airstream uses a lot of high quality products and therefore emissions are within a reasonable range. I walked into a new TravelManor and thought I was going to croak right then and there the fumes were intolerable. If you are highly sensitive it is important to demand (if possible) green product, (no formadelyhyde, etc.) and natural fibers in the construction of your camper or you do it yourself when you get it which is Lots of work! I had had no problem with our new Casita. To further enhance the air quality I have placed houseplants in there that are great for cleaning up chemicals in the air. No burning eyes, coughing or wheezing. | See RoTi item |
| Re: Buying an RV | Gerry | Buying an RV is definitely not like buying a car. I never imagined how much maintenance would be involved. Almost every item requires maintenance and there are many items. I don't think the literature the manufacturer gives is adequate. In order to keep track of the maintenance you have to keep track of every item and system. But I would never want to be without my RV, the RVing experience makes it all worthwhile. | See RoTi item |
| Motorcoach safety - ask about it when buying an RV! | Ric | The flammability test FMVSS 302 provides very little fire protection. It only tests materials placed horizontally and most of the materials that pass this test burn like crazy when placed vertically. That's why fires in vehicles are so severe even though all the materials used pass this test. Depsite what is said here this test appears to afford little fire safety to motorcoach occupants. | See RoTi item |
| Re: Renting an RV | marian cicci | before buying an RV, always rent first to see if you like the lifestyle. In florida, always use easy rider motorhome rental. they are the cleanest units and the least expensive with no mileage charges | See RoTi item |
| Re: TAB teardrop trailer | Ravenhouse | We are looking for a newer model used T@B. We live in Colorado, but are willing to travel a reasonable distance to collect it. The Queen seems ideal for us, but are open to other models. | See RoTi item |
