THE FUTURE OF ENERGY AND POWER SOURCES
FOR RV's
- We really need NEW ideas ..

It seems obvious and the sooner we do it the better ...

RoTi readers have been asking the question "when will RV manufacturers come up with really exciting new energy ideas?"  You can read reader's comments below - and add your own opinion.

These are the facts from the Energy Information advisory:
  • Transportation accounts for 29% of our US energy use
  • 96% of transportation energy comes from petroleum sources; only 2% comes from renewable energy
The future seems obvious:
  • We improve the efficiency of out vehicles
  • We develop and use more renewable energy sources and new power systems for our vehicles

The sooner we do it the better ...

Energy sources and use by sector

Conclusions from the chart above - drilling for oil doesn't really help too much - nuclear isn't really going to make an enormous difference - natural gas and renewable seem the way to go as per the Pickens plan.  What do you think, add your comments below ...

But first we show - just for fun - an interesting idea from Westfalia Verdier, Canada.

Barb BYes, we need to find alternative energy sources. However, it is going to take a while for everyone to get there from cost standpoint. There are many hybrids out there, but when you compare the cost of purchase to the dollar savings it's not there. Too much for most to buy. Drilling is needed along with developing alternatives. And you need to look more closely at the Big Oil's profit - 3%. I know most Board of Directors and Shareholders would not stand for that. Besides, most oil co stock is owned by the same generation that got us here.
KatherineWhat happens with all of our waste vegetable oil? I saw an article where a motorhome had been converted to run on used vegetable oil and went across America. There must be millions of gallons of waste oil every year. Does anyone know what happens to it?
Bill BIt's disraceful that transportation uses just 2% alternative fuel and 96% oil. Drilling is not the idea, we really do need new energy sources. Al Gore is right. When are the RV manufacturers going to press the engine builders for radically different engines or new power systems? The article is right, it needs to be soon!
woodcutterI think the US Dept of Energy is less than a joke. They know what the problem is and so does every vehicle operator in this country. Its called BIG OIL. GREED and supported and condoned by this administration whose leader is even more of a joke.
John AAmazing that GM are building one new hybrid model every three months. RV manufacturers should take note and work with GM or Cummins or whoever to improve RV fuel consumptions.
