Audi Q7 3.0 TDI leaves Chicago starting the second wave of the Audi Mileage Marathon, which will take the clean diesel vehicle through Memphis, Dallas, and finish in Denver. Audi clean diesel vehicle leaves Chicago starting the second wave of the Audi Mileage Marathon

Denver, Col. (October 14, 2008) — After driving over 2,800 miles and covering half of the United States, Audi's TDI clean diesel vehicles are passing the real world endurance test by posting admirable fuel efficiency numbers. With about 2,000 miles left in Audi's cross country Mileage Marathon, the Audi A3 TDI has averaged 46 mpg over the entire drive, the Audi A4 vehicles have averaged 39 mpg, and the Audi Q5 TDI vehicles averaged 33 mpg. The Audi Q7 TDI vehicles, clean diesel SUVs which will be the first TDI vehicles available in the Unites States early next year, averaged an excellent 28 mpg over the first two legs.

Audi - "introducing the benefits of the clean diesel vehicle to America"
Clean diesel - a diesel engine with advanced fuel delivery and exhaust cleaning that can burn ultra low sulfur diesel fuel and meet increasingly strict diesel emissions legislation.

46 mpg - great  we need to see fuel saving and exhaust improving technologies increasingly being applied to RVs!  What do you think, add your comments below ...

Dan in VAThe new low sulfur clean Diesels are clean. They don't smell or smoke. Putting a white paper over the exhaust pipe exit will reveal no black soot. I have a 2008 Winnebago View on a Sprinter chassis by Mercedes. It's smooth, quiet, clean, and returns 15+ real world MPG. Old technology burning new Diesel fuel will smoke and smell. Eventually those will be replaced by the new technology motors. The Sprinter and the diesel the future.
Paul KIn India and China they're building more cars every year and 35% of these have diesel engines and it's expected to top 50% by 2010. In Europe more than 50% of cars have diesel engines. World demand for diesel is increasing every year. Diesel engines are generally more fuel-efficient and produce less greenhouse gases. All RVs should be clean diesel. Clean diesel improves diesel benefits even more.
DragonInterestingly enough, Ford is making a diesel car that gets 65 miles/gallon. But it won't be sold here, because nobody wants to buy something running on diesel. People have a good memory about the days gone by, how diesel fumes smelled, but they selectively forget what gasoline fumes used to smell like. Also, they don't realize that a diesel car would last longer than a gas car. In the not-too-distant future, we will hopefully have plenty of bio-diesel. And, neither ethanol nor diesel will be made from corn.
PeteyFixallWe have a Volkswagen Jetta TDI 55 MPG and will spank most cars on the road and keep up with the rest. I am also on my 3rd diesel GMC single wheel 1 ton the oldest one got 17 MPG towing 19MPG empty. Newest one does a little better but will pass anything on the road and will smoke the tires "out of the box" no mods. Power, Performance, and Economy, What more could you ask for? and I have never been without fuel, yes sometimes I have to go across the street, oh the horror! I live in the northeast and have driven much of the country.
Jose CarlosI was in Korea recently for a month, and noticed that ALL SUV's and MINIVANS and Jeeps are available only in DIESEL, which is around 900 won/liter instead of 1400+won/liter for gasoline. In Europe and South America (most of the world actually) diesel is sold for 1/3 less than gasoline, so the answer is obvious, the petroleum companies continue the fleecing of America.
RickWe don't want diesels because they are the most economical engine ever designed and all because the politicians only listen to their special interest groups who are more then likely receiving some sort of kick back in one way or another. I've never owned a diesel, but am hoping soon to join the club. The first diesel ran on peanut oil. The engines can burn about anything combustible. The only reason I found out about these unique engines was during mechanics school years ago. Gas turbine, gas and diesel engine repair. The diesel is by far the more superior of the engines easily able to continue to idle for long times in extreme temps or perform when required in the most demanding of conditions. Plus far exceed any gasoline engine in power and performance.
Victimized motoristWhy don't we want the diesel? I don't want them because THEY STINK! I don't appreciate having to turn off my car's heater when driving behind a diesel vehicle to avoid bringing that nauseating smell into my car. Children and pets are especially vulnerable, sometimes vomiting and causing a mess that needs to be cleaned up. And don't tell me that new technology has eliminated the smell. It's not true. They all stink to high heaven, even the newest models.
