A PENT-UP DEMAND FOR RVs?"

Sure, the RV industry is not looking good - but it just mirrors the overall economy and it's cyclical
  • VACATION ABROAD? - Many Americans like to take a vacation abroad but the dollar is weak and fuel costs - and therefore transportation costs - are high

  • STAY CLOSE TO HOME? - One solution is RV travel - within a fairly short distance from home.  But why use a gas-guzzling RV?  Because it's still cheaper than flying and staying in hotels ...

  • RECESSION? - Bloomberg News predicted this in November 2007: "As the U.S. housing slump worsens, gasoline prices rise and consumer confidence wanes, RV sales are forecast to slide this year and next"

  • RV PARKS DOING GOOD BUSINESS! - Many campgrounds are having better than normal traffic.  This is mainly the result of people staying closer to home as we commented above and according to the RVIA, RV rentals of motorhomes are up about18%

  • A PENT-UP DEMAND FOR RVs? - The RVIA says it's optimistic and sees evidence that there is a lot of pent-up demand for the vehicles which an upswing in the economy would bring out.  "The history of the RV industry has been cyclical," they say. "It tends to mirror the overall economy. In the long-term, people will save money by traveling in an RV."  But maybe we really need to change the RVs ...

  • WE NEED BIG CHANGES WITH RVs , greener and more fuel efficient - RoTi readers constantly tell us this, - particularly with luxury coaches, class A, class B, and class C - and this industry also needs "to improve its readiness for upcoming change" ..

MimiZI have asthma and before we bought our 09 17'Casita I called most Travel Trailer manufacturers and asked about emissions, (or off gassing). It was hard to get emission standards and they are not mentioned in the sale brochures. I know Airstream uses a lot of high quality products and therefore emissions are within a reasonable range. I walked into a new TravelManor and thought I was going to croak right then and there the fumes were intolerable. If you are highly sensitive it is important to demand (if possible) green product, (no formadelyhyde, etc.) and natural fibers in the construction of your camper or you do it yourself when you get it which is Lots of work! I had had no problem with our new Casita. To further enhance the air quality I have placed houseplants in there that are great for cleaning up chemicals in the air. No burning eyes, coughing or wheezing.
Horry BarnesI would really like to buy an RV but I think this is not the best time. I've been looking and trying to choose for about 2 years and now I've nearly decided (Winnebago ERA class B) I haven't the courage to spend the money. Difficult to spend or borrow right now.
John AI think there really is a pent-up demand for RVs. I think credit is a big factor. People can't get money as easily as before and this is having a big effect on sales. The gas-guzzling aspect is a problem also and we really do need to improve power systems. We had a class A, but I think if and when we buy a new motorhome it will be a class B and preferably hybrid or electric.
