RVing with Your Pet
Sometimes the best information in life comes from watching our pets. Here are a few observations of my own:
Most dogs seem to believe that they are the rightful owners of the campground they are staying at. That's why they
bark and growl whenever you drive by their RV. If you don't believe this, ask them.
RV dogs continue to shrink— RV dogs are getting smaller every year. Regardless of their diminutive stature,
these dogs also appear to own the entire campground.
Last week, on a really hot day, there was a three-hour power outage at our campground. We know that many folks
routinely keep their dogs in their air-conditioned RV while they're away. However, if the power ever goes out
(or the AC stops working), these same RVs quickly turn into ovens. In this case — we didn't have any way to know
if there were any dogs inside. Therefore, if you leave your dog alone in an air-conditioned RV, put a note on
the door or leave a key at the desk. Then, if the power goes out, someone can make sure that your pets are okay.
Alternatively, there are an increasing number of technology-driven products that can notify you
(via a cell phone) if the temperature in your RV exceeds a certain level.
When we arrived at our present campground earlier this spring, we were the only ones there.
As a result, we were able to let our dog run free for nearly three weeks. If you want to see your dog at its best
— find some place where you can safely let them run off-leash. It's an unforgettable sight.

| Re: Futuristic Motorhome eleMMent | Richard H Zentgraf | As long as thease dreamers think that the majority of RV'rs want to take their Manhatten or Hollywood penthouse along, they are mistaken.
Get back to basics, a comfortable ride, sleep off the ground, a one burner stove is Ok and scrap the carpets. And, oh yes. Leave the damn TV at home. |

| Re: Fuel-cell cars go commercial 2015 - implications for RVs | ARoach | Holy cow this sounds promising, my wife absolutely hates living without AC in the summer, she also hates me and the kids gone every weekend. I hate burning diesel unnecessarily. This might make everyone happy in my family. |
| Re: RV industry bubble - just like housing | Chris P | This is exactly true, I lost both my house and my RV. |
| Re: Tracks to Adventure and Adventure Caravans merge | The Eggesteins | We went on the Tracks Alaska 30 days tour a couple of years ago. The reservations were made ahead of time for meals and campgrounds, the route was planned for the scenic areas, the wagon masters had knowledge of fuel stops and road conditions, and help was always available for mechanical and tire problems. Our highlights included the vast, open spaces and the drives from one stop to the next. We were amazed to see the amount of water in the rivers and creeks. The little towns like Chicken, Stewart, Valdez, and Homer (fishing) were wonderful. The wildlife along the roads, roaming about, Fairbanks, Denali park, Cassiar Highway and the Stewart Glacier area were also highlights of ours. No improvements needed! We went on our tour with Tracks after we heard from others that the tours are good and conducted well. We are planning on going on another tour with them. |

| Re: $4 gas a thing of the past, at least for now | Dodder3 | Great but nobody really explains why. I thought it was the oil countries who set the price but I read that it was really US speculators. |
| Re: How to sell your RV without really trying | RCD Texas | Consignment is the best way to go. I've sold 2 motorhomes and I did it myself in both cases. The reason I did it was I thought I would make more money than if I consigned it. In both cases it was a real hassle and in the end I had to really reduce the price to sell it. Next time I'll consign. It's like selling a house - yourself or a realtor. |
| Re: Higher gas prices not slowing RV sales | Ken G | I agree that it doesn't make much difference for a single trip, but if you're a full-timer that travels a lot like me, it can make a big difference. I'm on a fixed income and if it goes up and up, I'll just have to travel less I guess. |
| Re: Why settle for basic roadside assistance | Charles3 | I agree. A tire blowout is really tough. If you are OK they want to tow rather than change the tire depending where you are on the freeway. Imagine the damage! |
| Re: Why settle for basic roadside assistance | Roy56 | I have Coach Net and have used it for a tire change. Great help. Nobody who's ever had a tire blowout will ever say anything other than you need the BEST assistance you can get. |

| Re: How to sell your RV without really trying | Fortune499 | I haven't sold an RV (yet) but i've sold houses and I cant imagine doing it without a realator. Easy to buy, not so easy to sell. |
| Re: How to sell your RV without really trying | Ros | I've had 2 consignment experiences. The first was a waste of time we took the RV back after a couple of months and the second we sold it fairly quickly. Most important is who you consign it with and how they market it. It's the same as selling a house really. |
| Re: Fuel-cell cars go commercial 2015 - implications for RVs | Ron H | This is big deal and this is the way it's going to go obviously. I think it will be limited by the time to set up the infrastructure but it's a game-changer for sure. |
| Re: Fuel-cell cars go commercial 2015 - implications for RVs | Rod N | Seems expensive and most campgrounds provide back-up power but I can see the implications and that we are moving into a whole new world. |

| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Cattleman | When the price of diesel fuel goes up, the cost is passed along to the stores. This makes the store prices go up. This makkes the fools think we are in an economic recovery because the stores report higher sales dollars. This isnot an indicater of increased sales. It is an indicater of increased prices. Yet, no one ever mantions this. |

| Re: Fulltiming | Jo | im a 25 year old fit and supposedly attractive female from NY, graduating with a bachelors in psychology next year, and was planning on buying a used RV in 2014 (i'd have a budget of about 10K - 15K) to travel cross country (along the southern states, a few stops in NM and AZ) to California, starting in san diego and traveling north up the coast. I plan on spending lots of time just wandering and seeing what is beautiful, shores, deserts, mountains, etc. I would be doing a lot of fishing and hiking and im sure a bit of climbing. I am bringing my cat, but that is it. I was really looking forward to doing this alone. The thing is I'm not the strongest fighter, I have yet to iron out a plan for making an income while i travel, and I'm not exceptionally skilled at mechanics or repairs. I was originally planning to do this with my very best friend, who had his ways of making money on the road, being an amazingly talented songwriter, and a decent guitar player. Unfortunately my friend passed away a few weeks ago, and I am determined to keep my promise. I really dont want to have to put this dream on the back burner. Although I do want to have my degree, since I'm almost finished, I don't feel like the opportunities for me lie here in NY. Maybe somewhere in California I will find a future and life i can really love. It has just always seemed like it is more my pace and mentality there for the most part.
I was planning to just do this alone, but it would be nice if there were a decent person that could help with costs and provide a better sense of security. I'm not looking to mooch off an unexpecting retiree, Im just posting this to see if by chance someone replies who I can stand :) im definitely content being a loner, but even that gets lonely sometimes, honestly. And can be scary, im sure, in the desert or wilderness, whether it is because of wild predators, or human ones. Anyway, I'd prefer someone under 40, so that we can be comfortable and enjoy each others company. Im not a heavy drinker and i don't smoke cigarettes but might be willing to tolerate that. I do smoke the occassional doobie, so whoever joins me would have to be ok with that. I'd need someone with a great sense of humor, who's easy going and low maintenance, and takes pleasure in just living freely and enjoying the beauty of nature. Sorry I always type too much, Im really not a chatterbox at all in person. I love beautiful silences. My email is FreeMeRV@gmail.com - please only serious replies that at least meet my age requirements. i dont want to feel bad about not replying. Include basic information and something interesting about yourself! Prior RVing experience would be invaluable! :) |

| Re: Fulltiming | BG | Hi, me retired male, just completed 18 months RV trip London to KL (Malaysia),covering 50.000 km, now keen to travel back via Thailand Laos China Mongolia Russia to Western Europe. Interested in an intrepid companion of reasonable health, fitness and financiallyy secure to share the experience and expenses. You need to be able to make it to KL by late Februari /early April. Travel documents needed are a passport with about 15 blanc pages valid for at least 18 months. The RV is perhaps not the average luxury US model but a fairly rugged modified MAN 14.272 truck. Does come with all the basic comforts like bathroom kitchen, sitting one single and two double sleeping positions, storage with bicycles, inflatable with outboard and a washing machine / dryer, heating and two AC's. With 1100 liters of diesel the range is between 4 and 5000 kilometers. We need to make the Laos China border at Boten by May 2nd to join a transit convoy of 5 vehicles to the Mongolian border by end of May. Best to cross much of Mongolia late spring while the ground is still hard, by mid summer many roads turn to mush, after that no deadlines. Potentially head South down Africa to Capetown. (this would need more passport pages and time. More information on request and please include some personal details with a recent photo to traveltruck@hotmail.com |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | kedtec | Diesel fuel takes about 1/3 the energy to refine than does gasoline. The only place that diesel fuel costs more than gasoline is in the USA. But if diesel fuel costs more than we can raise our prices on all consumer goods and produce since everything gets delivered by diesel powered truck. Moreover, the farmers need diesel to run their tractor. |

| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Weez-L | Why in the world would we let the new pipeline be installed and run by the greedy oil companies? We all waited for the Alaskan pipeline years ago thinking our gas & diesel prices would go down. But, what happened is the oil companies got greedy again and now sell all of it to China. You know they will do the same with the new pipeline. In the 1930's the government formed TVA, for electric generation and we still have cheaper electricity then the private sector companies. Maybe our government should take over the new pipeline and demand that all of the oil will stay here in this country only. If they did we could possibly have $.50 per gallon gas & diesel. This would not only put people to work, but really stimulate the economy. Down with all the oil companies and down with our worthless congress. |

| Re: Fulltiming | To Lady Driver,Thanks! | You endless rambling about the pitfalls of the internet just re enforce my initial thoughts. Thanks for the warning. |
| Re: Fulltiming | Lady Driver | Hi all, I didn't actually expect to be insulted and called some kind of 'paranoid woman'. But this is the internet, where it is so easy for men to call us names, when we indicate that maybe we weren't all born yesterday. You just gotta laugh at how obvious it is. Someone got upset because I saw through his scam. Beware. (Oh, sorry for the spelling mistakes in my previous post.) Just a postscript - I love the RV lifestyle, and I actually know the good and the bad. There are perhaps some people on this forum who are wannabe types, both men and women. So my message is simple. There are real precautions which should be taken. Okay, throw the insults. It will make your pitiful day. |
