Big beautiful RVs? 2010 Newmar Essex
See RoTi review |
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Cummins
Inc. (NYSE: CMI) has received certification from the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its 2010
Heavy-duty big-bore ISX15 and MidRange ISB6.7,
ISC8.3 and ISL9 engines.
Certification of these engines means that
the Cummins 2010 engine line-up for on-highway
applications meets the near zero emissions levels
required for all engines manufactured in 2010. |

Or something smaller?

See RoTi review |
The new EPA regulations, which took effect
January 1, 2010, are the most stringent emissions
regulations in the world, with Oxides of Nitrogen
(NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions levels
of 0.2 grams and 0.01 grams per
brake-horsepower-hour, respectively.
“Receiving the formal certificates is an important
step in the process as we enter 2010 with
customer-ready products,” said Jim Kelly, President
- Engine Business. “This confirms that customers can
be confident in the technology choice we’ve made to
meet the new, more stringent emissions standards.“ |
|
|
Cummins will utilize Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to meet the EPA 2010 near-zero emissions standards. Cummins committed to using SCR technology because of a step change in performance which provides a significant increase in efficiency and durability.
“Our decision to use SCR technology has given us the ability to provide customers with the most fuel efficient engines for on-highway applications. We expect to see at least 5 percent fuel economy improvement for the ISX15 and up to 3 percent improvement for the MidRange products,” Kelly said. |
|
Cummins EPA 2010 engines will include an enhanced cooled
EGR system and a single VGT ™ turbocharger. The ISX15,
ISL9, and ISC8.3 feature the Cummins XPI fuel system,
and the ISB6.7 features an improved high pressure common
rail fuel system. The new SCR catalyst is included along
with the Cummins Particulate Filter, first introduced in
2007, in the Cummins Aftertreatment System.
Incorporating SCR technology will also require the use
of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) at an average rate of 2
percent of diesel fuel consumption. DEF is currently
available at numerous retail locations throughout the
United States and Canada including all Cummins
Distributor locations.
With the introduction of the new EPA 2010 engines,
Cummins maintains engine availability across a broad
range of on-highway applications. The Heavy-duty ISX15
offers fuel economy leadership for the heavy-duty Class
8 truck market along with better performance and better
reliability compared to today’s industry-leading ISX.
And, the MidRange ISB6.7, ISC8.3, and the ISL9 are
designed for and available in a wide variety of
applications, including medium-duty truck, school bus,
fire and emergency and recreational vehicle markets.
To best serve customers in the vocational and
less-than-truckload markets, the Cummins ISX11.9 will be
introduced later in 2010. The ISX11.9 is on target for
limited production in mid-2010 with full production
commencing in late summer of 2010. Cummins will submit
necessary documentation for EPA 2010 certification for
the ISX11.9 later this year, prior to introduction to
the marketplace.

| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Unhappy Diesel driver | Part of the problem could be: The gov gave you a rebate for buying more fuel efficient vehicles. Now they are getting their rebates back by taxing the fuel you have to use in your more efficient vehicle.
We in america are our own worst enemies. We have to have big powerful engines in our big cars and trucks. My Americanized VW has a 2.0L diesel engine, whereas in Europe the same car would have a 1.4L engine, hence greater fuel savings. But after all is said and done, it really does'nt matter what the amount of fuel is used, you will still pay the same. If you use less, the price will increase, because the fuel companies and the gov. have their budgets and if you use less, it cuts into their budgets. You cannot win over big business and Government. PARK YOUR BIG GAS AND DIESEL BURNERS AND WATCH THE PRICES COME DOWN!!! It may be a little painful, but we as Americans have had to fight for our freedom and our liberties in the past, so why do we let the oil companies and our ruling fathers dictate to us high prices for energy??? |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | No Illusions | Simple fact is that the Electric Co. , Water and other utilities prices are regulated because they are monopolies with no competitors. Big oil is a monopoly without any over site so they can charge whatever they want to. The Government is in bed with them and they are all getting rich off the backs of working class Americans. |
| Re: Keystone Montana fifth wheel | Guy | We've got a 2011 3150 and absolutely love it...great floor plan, great craftsmanship, pulls great with Dodge 2500 turbo-diesel! |
| Re: Overnighting at WalMart | Nate | I have stayed in Defuniak Springs, FL twice and somewhere in South Carolina once. I usually don't spend less than $30 at Camp Walmart and was treated more than adequately. I wish they had diesel at Defuniak Springs. You will see probably 5-8 RVs at DS & they are all gone by 8 AM. By about 10:30 the parking lots are quiet. |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Dale in Virginia | I'm tired of hearing "global" when questioning fuel prices here in the US. I could care less what anyone anywhere else in the world is paying for fuel/gas. I'm tired of the left wing environmental idiots putting a stop to building more refineries. There is no reason why we can be totally self-reliant on our own oil instead of bowing to OPEC. People spent extra money to purchase diesel engine cars and trucks to take advantage of lower diesel prices and better fuel mileage. All food prices have risen because of the extra cost in delivering the goods because of the high fuel costs. They are very simply ensuring fuel prices remain high in an attempt to make the high cost of alternative fuels more reasonable. They are the same people that for years have told us to purchase more fuel efficient automobiles to “save the environment”. The current administration is so enslaved to these whackos that he won’t approve the Keystone Pipeline project when the country is hurting for jobs. We need to use our resources and become completely energy self sufficient. |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Barbqdude | It used to be that diesel was 40 cents a gallon higher, then 50, then 60, and now in Phoenix it has jumped to 70 and 80 cents a gallon higher. Something needs to be done, this is called GOUGING! |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | d cabral | ok Mr OBAMA the time has come to get off your ass and do something about these diesel costs. the fuel cost a fraction of that of gas to refine, the american people need a break the high cost of diesel has driven up the price of everything from the cost of food to live, to the cost of fuel to get to work soon there there will be no middle class for you to suck dry |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | smokie | What I want to know is why diesel is more than a dollar a gallon than gas. People, it dos not matter if you drive a gas vehicle or not. We are all paying for it through are commodities. Wake up!! Every body should be outraged. |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Salmon | The reason the bigger trucking Co. don't care about fuel prices is that they now just add a surcharge and charge the extra cost of fuel to the coustomer. That why they don't protest like they did 30 years ago, blocking freeways and pumping fuel on the ground at Truck Stops, there are only small group of independent trucker who are not able to add surcharge and do care about fuel costs.
The reasion our prosest are not herd is there not enough of US protesting without the trucking Co. prostesting too. |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | devin | there area a dozen reasons why diesel is more expensive. I hate it but I have no choice. the real question should be. WHAT ARE WE AS THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY WILLING TO DO ABOUT IT? |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | PAPAKRAKA | I live in Tulsa, formerly known as "OUL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD".My Grandfather,Father,Uncle, and many friends retired from Texaco,Sinclair, etc.Deisel costs 60% less than gas to manufacture.Yhe only reason the price is higher is GOUGING!!My dad was called to Washington in the 70's to testify about the fake gas shortage back then.Remember 10 years ago when truckers blocked D.C.?Price went down PRETTY QUICK!THEY SHOULD DO IT AGAIN!By the way,I drive an 81 chevy deisel van. |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | chainsaw | BULLSHT, BULLSHT, BULLSHT, BULLSHT, BULLSHT, BULLSHT.....i AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE BULLSHT. WHAT DOES ONE HAVE TO DO TO GET THESE A-HOLES ATTENTION????
i AM NOT ONE TO ACT ON IT NOR WILL I DO ANYTHING STOOOOOOOOPID HOWEVER, WHY IS IT WHEN WE SEE SOMEONE SHOOT A BUNCH OF PEOPLE OR BLOW SOMETHING UP WE SAY "OH HE WAS SUCH A QUIET GUY, KEPT TO HIMSELF DIDN'T EVER BOTHER ANYONE"!!! WELL GUESS WHAT WAKE UP YOU POLITICAL IDIOTS!!! PEOPLE ARE GOIN NUTS CAUSE YOU A-HOLE HAVE YOUR HEADS UP YOUR ASSES SO FAR YOU NEED A WINDSHIELD FROM A 76 PACER TO SEE OUT OF YOUR ABDOMIN!!! I bought a diesel pick up cause fuel was cheaper AND I get 17-19 MPG. NOW I'M SCREWED!!!! |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Danstar | They say demand is up, but excuse the hell out of me. This country lost close to if not over 2 million class 8 trucks during this recession, and then another nearly 300,000 drivers that did not comply with the new FMCSA 2010 regs and had more then 300 points on their licenses. I don't know about your math, but this is 345 million gallons of diesel not being bought every few days (on the big truck scale of use) that is over 35 BILLION gallons of diesel not being purchased and though it would not be fair to calculate at actual pump prices as most companies get up to .15/gal discount on fuel programs they have, your still talking over an estimated $130 BILLION dollars lost in annual diesel fuel consumption and those are very rought #'s based on discounts down to $3.65/gal which not everyone would receive if they have a small fleet vs a larger fleet, but however you figure it, that has to put a hurting on some oil conglomerate bastards pocket book!!! Sad part is, Exxon still claims to have made over $400 B in profits last quarter... |
| Re: Leisure Travel Vans Freedom II class B motorhome | Roldan T | Just purchased a 2012 Leisure Travel Van Serenity from the Pomona RV Show in California. My wife was sold on the YouTube Videos of Dean Corrigal of LTV giving a tour of the van. Love the Mercedes Diesel and Layout. Quality Vehicle. We knew that only 90 LTV are made each year and when you do a web search, this model is rare to buy used. And the price does not depreciate much. We are new RV'ers. Looking forward to many adventures. So far took it out to State Beaches for overnight primitive camping. Expect getting attention from other RVers with this rig. It draws a crowd. |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | philip martin | we are a mechanized society. this is causing the economy to suffer.
lets call it what it is unbridled greed.goverment is incompetent. |
| Re: Fleetwood Tioga motorhome | Nashville RVer | We bought our first rv several months ago after renting one for the first time last year. We didn't do a lot of shopping around but did do extensive Internet research. We purchased a 2011 Fleetwood Tioga 24 DSL. We love the rv but are disappointed in the quality - cheap hardware, wood trim covered in contact paper, and just sloppy workmanship. Our unit spent 5 weeks in the shop 100 miles away for a list of fixes that included window
Leaks, trim that feel off the slideout while driving down the road, exhaust bracket broken, diesel generator problem, both sinks leaked, etc. We got our rv back 3 days before a planned week long trip and half the things that were
supposed to be fixed weren't!! Our dealer is over 120 miles away!! We expected a few issues but nothing quite like this. In retrospect I think we would have done much more shopping around and manufacturer research! |
| Re: Fulltiming | Duane Callahan | Hi, I have been RVIng for 11 years. My wife died in the fall of 2010 and I just finished a 4 month, 11'000 mile solo trip in my RV. Just roamed around the US visited friends.
I would like to find a travel companion to share some of the expenses/experiences with and go whereever in the US. There is much to see.
I am 69 and am willing to do all of the driving. I have a clean driving record and feel comfortable in most situations. I spent most of my life in jewelry design and sales. I have liberal views, volunteer with Rotary, World Affairs, Trailmix and several other non-profits where I give both time and money.
If you would want references, I will provide them.
I am getting ready to purchase a larger Motorhome class A diesel, with at least 2 slides and have a tow car. I live in Juneau, Alaska and have plenty of room for a house guest. Why not start your vacation here and travel south when the weather gets cooler. Or whatever your heart desires.
Questions just email Duane Callahan: dcal@gci.net |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Tim | When I bought my 2001 F-250 4x4 7.3 diesel new the price per gallon was $1.41. In ten years I can barely afford to drive it since the price and almost tripled! Somebody is feeding us a line of garbage and making a heck of a lot $. |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | rabbit | rt if you think pick get 12 mpg your i have a 7.3 f 250 crue cab 18.5 mpg in city and 24.8 on hwy the fuel cost is so they can rob people that heat homes with fuel oil and the people who make a living depending on this fuel
