Big beautiful RVs? 2010 Newmar Essex
See RoTi review |
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Cummins
Inc. (NYSE: CMI) has received certification from the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its 2010
Heavy-duty big-bore ISX15 and MidRange ISB6.7,
ISC8.3 and ISL9 engines.
Certification of these engines means that
the Cummins 2010 engine line-up for on-highway
applications meets the near zero emissions levels
required for all engines manufactured in 2010. |

Or something smaller?
The new for 2010 Roadtrek SS-Ideal class B motorhome
See RoTi review |
The new EPA regulations, which took effect
January 1, 2010, are the most stringent emissions
regulations in the world, with Oxides of Nitrogen
(NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions levels
of 0.2 grams and 0.01 grams per
brake-horsepower-hour, respectively.
“Receiving the formal certificates is an important
step in the process as we enter 2010 with
customer-ready products,” said Jim Kelly, President
- Engine Business. “This confirms that customers can
be confident in the technology choice we’ve made to
meet the new, more stringent emissions standards.“ |
|
|
Cummins will utilize Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to meet the EPA 2010 near-zero emissions standards. Cummins committed to using SCR technology because of a step change in performance which provides a significant increase in efficiency and durability.
“Our decision to use SCR technology has given us the ability to provide customers with the most fuel efficient engines for on-highway applications. We expect to see at least 5 percent fuel economy improvement for the ISX15 and up to 3 percent improvement for the MidRange products,” Kelly said. |
|
Cummins EPA 2010 engines will include an enhanced cooled
EGR system and a single VGT ™ turbocharger. The ISX15,
ISL9, and ISC8.3 feature the Cummins XPI fuel system,
and the ISB6.7 features an improved high pressure common
rail fuel system. The new SCR catalyst is included along
with the Cummins Particulate Filter, first introduced in
2007, in the Cummins Aftertreatment System.
Incorporating SCR technology will also require the use
of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) at an average rate of 2
percent of diesel fuel consumption. DEF is currently
available at numerous retail locations throughout the
United States and Canada including all Cummins
Distributor locations.
With the introduction of the new EPA 2010 engines,
Cummins maintains engine availability across a broad
range of on-highway applications. The Heavy-duty ISX15
offers fuel economy leadership for the heavy-duty Class
8 truck market along with better performance and better
reliability compared to today’s industry-leading ISX.
And, the MidRange ISB6.7, ISC8.3, and the ISL9 are
designed for and available in a wide variety of
applications, including medium-duty truck, school bus,
fire and emergency and recreational vehicle markets.
To best serve customers in the vocational and
less-than-truckload markets, the Cummins ISX11.9 will be
introduced later in 2010. The ISX11.9 is on target for
limited production in mid-2010 with full production
commencing in late summer of 2010. Cummins will submit
necessary documentation for EPA 2010 certification for
the ISX11.9 later this year, prior to introduction to
the marketplace.

| Re: Fulltiming | Pat | I have a question for the experienced RV'ers. If you were going to buy something, used, small. Would you buy something to tow? Or a motor home? Would it be gas or diesel? Thanks for you response. You can respond here or pat_kit_kat@hotmail.com |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | RVer krw | the cheif reasion i see as to why diesel is higher than gasoline [worldwide demand being greater for diesel] doesn't seem likely given that diesel commodities quotes are usually within a few cent of gasoline...+/- 10 cents but retail diesel is generally 30-40 cents higher. i beleive the real reason is because there is no public outcry by consumers [trucking co] because they can pass the higher diesel rates on to their customers in the form of a fuel surcharge.most of their customers are okay with these charges, because they know diesel prices are higher. and petro co are tickeled to death.it doesn't work with gasoline..most people can't pass the charges on to a third party and they can choose to drive less if prices get to high. or they may get angery enough to call a congressman. |
| Re: Why don't we want the diesel | Wain A | Because people believe anything they're told. I hate the idea of putting my family in a gas operated car, one of the most flammable chemicals on the planet. it has no place in consumer appliances. Our cars being the appliance. |
| Re: Why don't we want the diesel | DutchFrankie or Frank G | For all those who are against DIESEL,
You are all very narrow minded thinking, I will explain the reason later.

| Re: Coachmen Prism class C motorhome | HHg in Austin | We have the 2009 Prism M230 and LOVE IT !! We have experienced NONE of the earlier mentioned issues. Cabinets are great, full drawer sliders, great use of space. The Freighliner chassis w/the Mercedes diesel does get very close to the advertised MPG,..as we get between 16-17mpg. The only issue I would mention is the dealer we bought from,....they may be "BIG",.....but their service is terrible,...so use caution when selecting a dealer !

| Re: Coachmen Prism class C motorhome | Northerngal | January, 2010. We are downsizing from a 38' diesel pusher... we saw a Prism 400 miles from us for sale.. 2009, but never titled. We made the trip and it was the biggest disappointment. The coach looked so good on the outside..stepping in, it still looked good. When you began to really look things over, it was a real flop. The overhead cabinet door would only open about 1/2 way. You would have to struggle to put anything bulky in.. the couches were so deep, if you were 5'4" such as I am, your legs stuck straight out. The wash basin vessel was completely out of place and corner storage cupboards wouldn't hold but one roll of toilet paper. The pleated shades had little pieces of foam on the underside to keep them quiet while driving with them down. The ambient, rope lighting, was falling down, but worst of all, was the 4" or less foam mattress on the hida-bed. When the bed was extended, the foam wouldn't relax at either end, but if you sat on the edge, you sunk to the frame. The outside storage compartment doors required you to bend over to see what was inside. The outside was attractive, but the unit is not liveable. I guess, that's why they took it off the assembly line for 2010. Anyway, here again, the pictures were great, the coach was not. |

| Re: Cummins diesels 2010 - near zero emissions | Glen P | This is impressive and it's good that higher standards are being forced upon the engine builders. Hope the Chinese and everyone else are sticking to these standards |
| Re: Why diesel costs more than gas | Rick | I think we have a refinery problem in the U.S. This of course is caused by the main problem; the environmentalist lobby and weak politicians, but that's for another comment board. Apparently, the supply/demand for diesel and gasoline is kept somewhat balanced with our very limited refinery capacity. When talking such huge volumes, this can be a difficult task. So when supplies of diesel and heating oil hit highs, they cut production and switch to gasoline production and vice versa. Meanwhile, since we're generally short on refining capacity, tankers coming from Alaska, Canada and Mexico (where the majority of our foreign oil comes from) that can't unload their crude oil in a timely manner are diverted to other markets. So, if you want to solve the high cost of fuel in America, build more refineries, drill for more domestic oil in ANWR and build nuclear plants to reduce the demand for fuel oil. Again, environmentalists and weak politicians are the primary problem. |

| Don't want to fulltime alone | Lee | Although I have been a part-time RV'er for several years, I am now going to go fulltime having recently sold my home in Alaska, but don't want to do it alone. About me: I'm a widower, retired military, on SS - which suggests I'm 60+.LOL.(Although I don't look, feel, or act 60+). Now that I'm "homeless" except for a 38' class A diesel pusher with all the whistle and bells, I'm still missing that most important "BELLE" to make my life complete. I plan to begin my 2009/2010 funfilled adventure with a cruise out of Florida then work my way across the southern states toward Calif. (did I say "work"-shame on me). If these plans, life and adventure sounds appealing to you, then we need to get to know each other and soon. | Re: Winnebago View Class C | aussie | I really cant get over this `obsession' that Americans have that a `dodge' isnt supported anymore
dodge hasnt been available anywhere apart from America for the last 3 decades
It's a Merc sprinter
parts available worldwide (far more so than any Chrysler bits)
and turbo diesels rule the roads
v8 (v10's in america???- say whhhaaa)
I see all the camper owners in america complaining about 8-10 mpg
well you should be
I get about 28 mpg in a bigger 4 tonner ( thats about 8800 pounds according to wiki)
makes me wonder what I am doing right or you guys are doing really wrong...
