AUTOCHECK(R) VEHICLE HISTORY REPORTS FEATURE EXPANDED ACCIDENT INFORMATION

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Experian Automotive, a division of global business solutions company Experian(R) Inc., today announced the addition of new and enhanced accident information to its AutoCheck(R) vehicle history reports, expanding its nationwide coverage of police accident report and exclusive frame damage information.

Consumer demand for vehicle history information has grown immensely, with 75 percent of consumers citing whether a vehicle has been in an accident or collision as the most important piece of information in a vehicle's history. AutoCheck has now developed new and expanded accident data resources, increasing Experian Automotive's current data sets by tens of millions of records, as part of its continued effort to meet industry needs and build used vehicle buyer confidence. Included within the new records are exclusive frame damage records gathered from physical inspections at vehicle auctions.

"Whether or not a vehicle has been in an accident is usually the first thing that comes to mind when making a purchasing decision, and actually knowing that accident history one of the more important factors in securing a sale," said George McClean, general manager of Used Car Operations for Mclaughlin Cadillac Volvo. "Having this information easily available and clearly understandable in the AutoCheck report is an invaluable tool in instilling confidence around a vehicle's accident history for our customers."

Experian Automotive last year introduced exclusive, police-reported accident information on vehicles nationwide. This service continues to provide all AutoCheck customers key information, including accident and frame damage data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, some of which is only available on AutoCheck vehicle history reports.

"Having information on a vehicle's accident history is critical when purchasing a used car, and the more information you have available, the more educated your buying decision will be," said Scott Waldron, president of Experian Automotive. "Experian Automotive works constantly to expand our information sources to provide as many facts as possible to consumers and dealers to help them make the best decisions possible." This most recent data now provides additional detail to AutoCheck vehicle history reports that can include severity of a collision, where the collision occurred, the areas of the vehicle that were damaged and whether airbags were deployed.

AutoCheck vehicle history reports leverage Experian's National Vehicle Database of more than half a billion vehicles nationwide. AutoCheck provides integral information on an automobile's history including possible undisclosed or unknown problems such as salvage and flood damage history that can affect an automobile's safety and resale value. In addition, AutoCheck offers its Buyback Protection -- buying back vehicles if a major hidden title brand is found.

Readers' comments:

jb70b :   I think these are essential especially if you're buying privately. I could spend a five figure sum only to learn that there'd been accident damage that gradually showed up in extra wear and tear and then made it difficult for me to sell again. Even worse, it could influence safety. Isn't this something that the finance and/or insurance companies should want?

Ginger :   It is good of course if you are buying. What if you are selling and every little thing of no ongoing consequence comes up in a report. What if extensive repairs were made that brings the vehicle up to par? I can see both sides of this.

John A :   I think this is good and I hope it applies to RVs. I'd hate to buy an RV and find out later that it'd been involved in an accident that caused ongoing problems and maybe even safety concerns.
