It’s a hole in one for Arizona! The Grand Canyon State has been recognized as the number one golf destination in North American by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators
(IAGTO).
Representatives from the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) accepted the award in a recent ceremony at the International Golf Travel Market Awards Gala on December 6, 2007, in the Gran Melia Hotel in Cancun, Mexico. |
“Being recognized as the number one golf destination in North America is a tremendous honor,” said Margie A. Emmermann, director of the Arizona Office of Tourism. “ Arizona’s golf courses are a tremendous tourism asset that brings thousands of tourists to the state, which contributes to the overall economic development of Arizona. Receiving this award is a wonderful way to highlight the more than 300 golf courses located throughout this amazing state. With more than 330 days of beautiful weather and sunshine, Arizona is truly a golfer’s paradise.”
IAGTO is the global trade organization for the golf tourism industry, comprising more than 1,040 companies in 73 countries, including more than 320 golf tour operators in 45 countries. The IAGTO Awards, in association with Hertz, are the official annual awards for the golf tourism industry. For more information, please visit www.iagto.com.
Created as an executive agency in 1975, the Arizona Office of Tourism is charged with enhancing the state economy and the quality of life for all Arizonans by expanding travel activity and increasing related revenues through tourism promotion and development. AOT works to serve the Grand Canyon State’s travel industry and related businesses, the traveling public, and the taxpayers of Arizona. For more information, please visit

I understand that the water underground is so low that AZ is using water that was laid down over 10,000 years ago. The water table is about done in I hear. Here is an idea. Why not build a pipe line to the Pacific Northwest put up some giant rain collectors and send the water by gravity down to parched Arizona? You can name the pipe line after me. You can call it Joe Who.

I agree with this. Arizona's great for golf, come here every year. What I don't understand is, it's in the middle of the desert and they keep all these golf courses so green. Where does all the water come from and how can they afford it?
