AIRSTREAM SAFARI SPORT 17
"
towing the Safari is a dream"

Airstream say: "The Safari's silver curves make a lovely reflective surface for moonlight, but they're not just for looks: the aerodynamically-shaped exterior design lowers wind resistance —requiring less horsepower and approximately 20% less fuel than conventional box trailers. Monocoque construction, ultralight materials, and a low center of gravity make towing the Safari a dream."   The picture below shows the 17' model (actual length 16'8"):

traveler :   I bought a 2yr old Casita and sold it 2 yrs later for the same price. I added new tires and many miles. I'm again in the market for a small trailer and thought the Air Stream would be a nice upgrade. It's nice all around but the price is ridiculous. The Casita is a much better buy so that's where I'll head.

Big Lew :   I have to agree with Mr. Beach. I do love the airstreams, but they are overpriced. Very similar to a Harley Davidson where as the name has more to do with it selling than the actual workmanship. To say that the airstream has more value because it is more difficult to make just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If we took the Casita and put rivet after rivet in it, does that make it better just because it took so long? Or, would you be concerned with the fact that it might have a better chance at leaking? Again, I really like the Airstream, but there are so many other options today like the Egg, Casita, Lil Snoozy, Park Liner etc. They are so easy to tow and mind you, most have the same shape as the airstream. BTW....the fiberglass eggs have just as much resale as the airstreams! I can show you 30 foot airstreams that are selling for 1200-3000.00 and no one wants them simply because of the size of the vehicle that is needed to tow them and the gas that goes along with that. I would not say all people are looking to save money, but I think saying most people today are looking to save money will stand in line for the fiberglass campers. In this case, size does matter!

Robert :   Like all Airtreams, this unit is way, way overpriced! You can find comparable brands and models that might not look as 'space-age' but with the same features and comfort for a much more respectable price.

Bob :   Saw one of these in a campground this summer. Nice! I like the lightness of it, and it sure stands out. Owners were very happy with it. Cost less than others with the same quality. They let me see the interior...cool!

Brutus :   My masters just bought a used Safari Sport 17 in March 2010, and they absolutely love it! It's easily towable by their V6 Jeep, and looks stunning. It's a purebred, you know. The Safari Sport is Airstream's 'more European' model. The Italian stove and sink in the kitchen are functional and beautiful; the interior - aluminum, gray upholtery, and light coloured wood - is sleek and modern, and the L-shaped lounge in place of the American dinette is cozy. Needless to say, I'm not allowed on the couch if I have rolled around in the mud! After having shopped around and seen a lot of small trailers with ugly interiors - even a dog finds the 'country kitchen' look unappealing - my masters do not regret for a moment buying it. It's a cool toy, for sure, and a design icon to boot! Sure, it gets a lot of attention, especially up here in Ontario where they are as rare as a Norwegian Lundehund. Mr. Beach (see below) will save money not buying this trailer, but when my masters are ready to upgrade to another Airstream they know that the Safari Sport will fetch a great resale price. Two paws up!
