I own a mobile home park near Greensboro NC and charge 140 per month I have a septic tank and line on each lot broken down that amounts to a little over 7 bucks a night and I make good money on my spaces. No way am I going to pay 30 and 40 or more a night for a camping space. Another thing my spaces are almost 1/2 acre KOA is very unreasonable on there prices. I am also in coast to coast all the camping I want to do for 10 to 15 bucks a night all year long. |
| Re: Overnighting at WalMart | cougar43 | I just found this forum and have really enjoyed reading the posts, so far I haven't used a WalMart parking lot for camping in my 33 ft puma but thought i might take advantage of there hospitality if needed. My problem is however I can not get to my bathroom or bedroom with out putting out the slide. So i guess people would tell me to just go to a campground? That would be a bit unreasonable I think. |

To do that, go to: autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/walmartrving and join (it's free). In their "Files" area you will find a complete and frequently updated list of ALL Walmarts, their addresses, phone numbers and overnight parking status. Disclaimer: I maintain that list. |

| Re: Overnighting at WalMart | Sylvia | I have stayed at Walmarts. I choose the Supercenters because most are open 24 hours with security and cameras. You can find Walmarts by going to the Walmart Locations website. Also go to the Overnighting at Walmarts website. Both great sites. Not all Walmarts are listed at the Walmart Locations website. For example, in Washington. the Marysville Walmart Supercenter is not listed. Its right on I-5 and is open 24 hours with security and cameras. I've seen RV's parked there for a week. Marysville is about 50+ miles from the
Canadian border. So if you'd planned to visit Canada, you can leave your RV in the Walmart lot. This Walmart is next to the Tualip Casino which allows you to park for 7 days at no charge in their lot. Big beautiful Casino, great food and buffet. RV lot is very secure but no hook ups. Great Premier Shopping Mall next door. Also the Casino has great outdoor concerts during the summer - big name entertainers. Also about 15 miles N on I-5 is another Casino which allows free parking.You can stay in WA rest areas up to 8 hours. Another great I-5 stop is Seven Feathers Casino in Canyonville, OR. Its beautiful but a litle pricy. They are listed as #3 on the Best RV Luxary RV stopovers. This place is beautiful and the people were wonderful. The worst place I stayed was in Panama City,
FL. Pricy, dirty, half the sites don't work, its says 300 feet to beach. More like 1000 feet after orossing a 4 lane busy road with no light or crosswalk and very rude people. By pass this RV Resort. Before heading out, plan your trip far in advance and send for states travel guides. They are very helpful. And always check the Weather Channel for weather. Get a Casino Camping Book altho its not really updated. They are inexpensive places to stay and usually have good food. You don't have to gamble. Another great place is
Bella Terra in Foley, AL. Rated 10/10/10 by Woodalls but only for Class A motorhomes. Pricy but well worth it.
Another tip - GET A SURGE PROTECTOR. Most important item you can buy for your investment. Can't tell you how many of these RV parks have power surges. The best and the ugliest RV park all have power surges. Protect your investment such as all your appliances and TV. WEKK WORTH THE INVESTMENT.
Stay in those Walmarts and spent some $ while there.

Arrived around 8pm, introduced myself to the security guard and he advised me where to park. I bought a few things and settled in for the night. He ended up doing a drive by about every 15 minutes or so, and I felt pretty safe. At 6am I hear knocking at my front door. A new security guard is yelling at me telling me I have to leave; that the other security guard made a "big mistake" by letting me stay. He's very upset with me, waving his flashlight in the air, etc. Well, I left... don't want the bad karma. Next time I will approach an actual manager inside the store. |
| Re: Overnighting at WalMart | ratpastry | while it might be a national policy on walmart's behalf to allow overnighters,the Dallas area forbids them to 'overnight' in the parking lots.The Dallas area is a high crime area and loitering anywhere after a certain time is frowned upon.hanging in parking lots at 2am would be considered loitering,whether you're in an RV or ford mustang.if you ain't inside shopping or waiting for somebody that's inside shopping you're just hanging out.dallas also has a curfew.nobody under 17 out roaming around between the hours of 11pm and 6am
..the police see any form of loitering as being suspicious after say 10:30 or 11pm |

I liked to stay at Walmarts for the night during our trip ... we never put out our BBQ, mats, etc. only two chairs and two slides so we could use our RV living area and kitchen. The standing joke is we spend more in each Walmart than we could ever spend in a RV campground. We are very upset when we see folks who set up camp in a Walmart or other retail establishment with BBQs, mats and all other showings of a long stay (two nights or more) and have to sympathize with the RV campground owners. This practice (setting up camp) only hurts the overnight campers but also the RV campgrounds and no one gains in the end. All I can say thanks to those inconsiderate folks who only think of themselves and in the end they will pay too. Signed: A boondocker at heart but spends a lot of bucks at Walmart. |

| Re: Overnighting at WalMart | Larry | When I lived in Quebec, I used to drive 50 minutes and work across the border at Plattsburgh,N.Y. We used to welcome the Quebecois to park overnight.
Every RV that pulled in spent about 50 Bucks on snacks and beverages.
Do the Math 40 RVs time 50 clams.
The parking lots are big. Any manager that would not let them park would be losing his profit sharing out of his pocket.
I used to have a lot of fun. If somkeone pulled in at ten or eleven, I would go to the and say " Vous etes trop tard," meaning that you are too late, everyone pulled in one or two hours ago. We would have a good laugh.
If Walmart doesn't let these good people stay the night, they are morons. |

If you buy a road atlas from WalMart or Sam's Club, in the back is a list of WalMarts in every state. It also lists Sams Clubs. It even tells which ones have gas or not. However, it doesnt indicate if they allow overnight stays. FYI |

A couple of years ago we had just arrived at the Albuquerque store, and within minutes a friendly security guard in a pickup truck advised us where to park and that he would check on us every 2 hours during the night. For a bonus, one of the city's indoor pool, 50 cent entrance fee, was located just across the street. |

| Re: Overnighting at WalMart | Erik | We were told no by a couple Walmarts in a town south of Dallas, TX. I've heard there are entire counties (Sacramento, CA) that restrict it and threaten to revoke the business license of any Walmart in the county which approves RV parking.
Just an FYI, if you get told "no" realize that it may not be the store's fault. The city or county could be threatening to close the store if they allow you to park there. |

Well, I happen to be a full time RVer and I live and work in Orlando, Florida and the two Walmarts we have here one on Kirkman Rd and one on Sandlake Rd absolutely DO NOT allow any overnight RV stays. It is clearly posted NO OVERNIGHT PARKING FOR RVs. Since I read about how walmart "loves RVer's" I decided to try my luck and was promply told by security that I would be trespassed if I were not to move immediately and this was after I had just spent $100 in groceries and another $100 in gas at their lousy super store! As fas as I'm concerned, they SUCK! |

| Re: Overnighting at WalMart | Julie P | I've been RVing for more than 20 years and never had a problem. We've stayed at walmarts, truckstops, casinos and parking lots. 24 hour Walmarts are particularly safe with cameras and security people. |
| Overnighting at Walmart | Safety first | I love staying overnight at Walmart. I think people who are critical are missing the point. We can buy everything we need and sleep in safety knowing that Walmart always has security cameras and security staff. When we arrive at our destination we stay at an RV park of course, but on our way to our destination you can't beat overnighting at Walmart. |
