The roamingtimes poll (Poll number 4, 2002)
RV trade shows / RV rallies - RESULTS OF THE POLL
This poll commented "Part of the RVing experience has to do with destinations.  The subject here, since it is relevant to us all at one time or another is: besides exploring new places or vacationing or snow birding, is the phenomenon of the RV Trade Show / Rally.  Share with us your opinions and we'll share the results with you."

Around 1400 RVers have taken the poll - up to 10/5/2002 - the following outlines some of the results:

1.

Have you ever been to an RV trade show or rally? 82% of the people who completed the poll said they had been to a trade show or rally.
2. What was/would be your main reason for going? 40% said the main reason was to see new RVs.
24% said it was to learn about other new products.
10% said the main reason was to meet other RVers.
3. Other reasons 7% said they went to buy a new RV.  Other main reasons were "joining in the fun atmosphere" (5%), to get bargains or discounts (4%),  to attend seminars (3%)
4. Give us your opinion of RV trade shows / rallies - in your own words Generally the viewpoint was very favorable.  Many people said they enjoyed looking at new RVs, although some mentioned that there was a lot of 'glitz and glitter' that not many people could afford.  Several people commented that it was nice to meet other RVers and join in the atmosphere, and several considered it educating.  Very few people said they were disappointed (less that 2%) - perhaps the most negative comment was "Don't go any more. I figure why should I pay an entrance fee to give someone the chance to sell me something." Otherwise, it's a fair summary to say that people really like RV trade shows and rallies.
5. How far would you travel to go to a show? The average answer was that people would travel up to about 323 miles.
6. Do you think seminars at trade shows are a good idea? 82% thought they were.
7. If yes - what would be the most interesting seminar subject for you? 25% mentioned maintenance.
17% mentioned learning about fulltiming
Safety, communications, making RVing cheaper and campground information were the other answers mentioned more than once.
8. What other attractions are important for RV trade shows / rallies - such as entertainment, famous sports stars, personalities etc.? 29% of people mentioned entertainment as being important.  Food was popular (12%). Meeting people (9%).  Very few people (less than 3%) mentioned meeting famous people or personalities etc. as important.  Seminars were popular once again, with 8% of people commenting that they were important attractions.
