89% of the people who took the poll believed
it would be a good idea for RV Parks to put aside a low cost
area just for overnighters. This is the question we asked
about the cost for this:
BASIC COST- bearing in mind the
campowner's overheads and profit margin etc., how much do think
you would feel was a fair price that you would be prepared to pay
as a MAXIMUM?
The average answer was around $9 (actual figure
$8.87). This was for no hook-ups. With full hook-ups
the average answer was around $16 (actual figure
($16.24).
While around 89% thought it was a good idea, many
thought the idea was not workable. This was from a
campowner:
"Most campowners have experience of campers who come in
and say they don't want services and then use the dump station,
fill their water tanks and take showers."
This view was confirmed by some comments from campers, for
example one camper commented:
"Would probably not use any of the amenities. Maybe a hot shower would be nice."
But generally most campers said that all they wanted was easy
in and easy out, arriving late and leaving early, where they
didn't have to pay for the facilities they wouldn't use.
RESERVATIONS. Do you think you
should be able to reserve ahead for a low cost area at an RV Park
or should it be first come first served?
72% believed it should be on a first come first
served basis. 28% believed they should be able to reserve
ahead.
TIME OF ARRIVAL. However,
the RV Park is a business of course. Maybe it would not wish
to provide low cost sites until it was sure that it could not fill
these sites with full fee paying RVers. If they could only
take bookings on the day and only after say 6pm, would this
be reasonable in your opinion. 77% felt it was
reasonable for the park to take overnighters on this basis only
after 6pm. Analysis of comments
-
Around 25% of people taking the poll said they
were not comfortable with rest-stops. Many of these
however commented that they were comfortable with Wal-Mart for
short overnight stops.
-
Several mentioned that they would be happy if
a campowner provided a level open area where they could park
on gravel.
-
About 5% said they would appreciate a dump
station and water fill-up point before leaving. Some
commented they would pay extra for these facilities
-
The expression "a safe haven" or
similar was used by many people doing the poll. Clearly
security was felt to be a, if not the major advantage
of an RV Park over a rest stop or Wal-Mart for an overnight
stay
-
The following comment from one camper is
typical of many:
"May benefit campgrounds more than they realize. We could
come back or recommend to others. We could buy something
in their store."
