RV MANUFACTURERS AND ALLERGENS
Disgraceful ...

by Judy Marberry

I think allergies are worse in an RV because of the small size, and the materials used in manufacture.

I've had bad experiences with two RVs we've gotten new. In both cases I had a bad allergic reaction for the first few months. I sneeze, my nose runs, my eyes water and I get more headaches than I normally do. I'm convinced this is caused by allergens in a new RV from the materials used. I am not normally allergic to things. My husband has allergies to foods such as milk and some seafood but he doesn't get a reaction to the RV the way I do.

I manage to cope with it with antihistamines and Tylenol Allergy but I find that I get dizziness and drowsiness and if I take too much I feel hungover and it's just as bad as the allergies themselves. I also find that Tylenol Allergy sometimes seems to make me restless when I'm trying to sleep and makes me feel tired when I wake up.

The second new RV that we got (we still have it) is a Fleetwood. I tried contacting them but they just didn't want to know. Maybe they thought I wanted to get money from them (I didn't). I tried to ask them if other people were reporting this problem and if they had done research into materials. They said they would get back to me but they never did.

I think the only way to deal with RVs and allergies is to ventilate as much as possible, but I think it's disgraceful that RV manufacturers have not solved this problem by reducing allergens with the materials they use.

Are you allergic to your RV?
